I went to boards and asked them to answer the question about the "A,B,and C" in the kits. This is what they told me the differences are. Hope this helps.

Also, I have been using Reconstruction B kits and they work fine for me.

They are just levels of quality. D is the best, A is the worst. In theory, all things being equal, a D will heal more than an A. This is not however always true. A high quality B can often out perform a poor quality C.
As far as the droid toolkit goes, I'm pretty sure you can just get by with A's. Since experimentation has no effect on the final stats I can't imagine the kits would make any real difference.
