Thread: Selling Schematics

I was approached today to make schematics for a non-crafter. He wanted fiber panels, reinforced fiber panels and armor padding. I explained that I would be happy to sell him the schematics, 1000 copies for 50,000 credits each schematic. "Hey" he said, I've always just given tips!"

I said, "if I run 1000 copies and sell them I will make between 100K and 150K selling the crates, if you run them in your factory I (potentially) lose that market. You may want to think of it as a professional service saving you over half of what you would pay for retail factory crates."

He said, "I won't bother you anymore" and probably went looking for an artesan noob.

How do you folks handle requests for generic schematics? In my opinon it's like going into a restaurant and asking for the detailed recipes of the chef for free.

I only do it when there's something substantial in it for me. And by something substantial, I don't mean money. I mean....

1) A really good friend wants it
2) A really useful contact wants it
3) I'm getting some hard-to find goods in exchange (i.e. brandy)

Other than that... meh.

first time i was asked for a schematic for synth cloth i blurted out 20k he said fine.

later i realised the cost saving he had just made

so in future i would ask for 50k-100k depending how i'm feeling

If a close friends asks, I'll do it for them. Other than that I say "NO". Not for any tip, not for any price. I tell them to go find a tailor that offers this and give them your business.

I personally will not make schematics for anyone as my vendor is stocked with 50+ crates of everything but armour padding that is a dozen or so..........

The only exeption is armour padding if i am low on wooly then the price is 150k if your polite 200k if your not

I treat Tailor Components as a big part of my buisness and I thumb my nose at anyone who gives away schematics

I don't make schematics, though occasionally I will help out good friends with them.

The other day, I got asked by a BH for schematics to run his own "bomb" droids with his materials (It would take 4 seperate schematics to make them). That just blew me away.

If its a guild member asking then no problem, although most guildies are happy to buy crates from my vendor.

If its armour padding and they are providing the resources then I'll make a schem for free but thats because I won't make the padding myself.

Anyone else and its a no. I explain I have crates in my vendor they are welcome to purchase or find a novice tailor who needs the extra cash.

I used to do them free for anyone who asked, but the tailoring forum told me why its not such a good idea.

I got approached on TC for a schematic yesterday. Being the evil b'stard I am, I told him "1 credit per unit resource per manufacture limit—in this case 25K." Obviously, he bawked at this…but that's okay, it wasn't money I was after. Instead, I got a 10-count crate of decent brandy in exchange for shuttling one town over to make a schematic. Sometimes I really love leveraging my skills.

Last night was the big night. I put the necessary materials into my backpack and "turned on" my master bio engineer tag for the first time in months. Then about 30min later, the tell I'd been waiting for came.

chef: u a be?

me:yes

chef: I need a schematic, I have the materials

me: are you a master chef? (I'm sure this question really puzzled him, lol)

chef: yes

me: Ok, I'll do it, but in exchange I want a schematic for varasian brandy

*silence*

*more silence*

chef: Ok

He gave me some of the worst materials I've seen, I made him a really horrible schematic for bio tissues, and he took my awesome materials and made a schematic for +410 power, 49 fill, varasian brandy, 1000 units, lol. Oh man, I'm gonna enjoy this.

oh, and right after we made this transaction I turned my tag back off, lol.

Art, you're my new hero. I shall strive to be as evil as you when given the opportunity. Just one question…one I've been trying to figure out for a while…

Why is your avicon a female Twi'lek?

That is a very good question, I picked that icon like a year ago and didn't even realize it was gender-specific (looks like it could be either to me quite frankly). Ah, but you're right, there is another, I'll pick that one, thank you sir, err, ma'am.
