Thread: Unsure About whether to be a tailor...
I am thinking of being a tailor but I am not sure what I am getting into. I know that weaponsmiths and armorsmiths make the most money but I thought this would be a more fun profession to be. Here are my questions:
- Do tailors make enough money to get by with profit?
- Do tailors need/can afford harvesters?
- Are there materials that tailors cannot "forage" (I know you can't forage hides, but do you have to become a scout to get them, or can you still get by on this profession without them?)
I know these are noob questions, but I am very curious
)
Maybe I can help you.
1. I was able to make credits going up the skill tree, and have been able to consistently make credits after master and now with bio-clothing am making even more credits, sold a taming vest for 500000 credits just yesterday ,,so yes,,credits arent a problem. There are several threads that have hints on what to sell and how to get started.
2. During the "grind" harvesting is almost mandatory, just to reduce your cost. Once you are at master your income is high enough to either buy or harvest. I personally harvest what I require with one medium mineral and one chemical harvestor and buy power, By harvesting myself I can work with larger stacks and that saves some inconvience by not having to remake certain schematics and etc.
3.Buy scoutand marksman right in the beginning, its only 100 creditsto train. Experience several professions in the beginning, You have 250 skill points and can always surrender later on. To get hides, try to find a group out hunting, and join them, most groups dont need all the hides they can loot so they might harvest hides and bones for you , Foraging is about the slowest and most frustrating way to get any resource I know of,,I dont forage for anything these days.
4. My last suggestion is to always ask yourself,,,did I have fun,,if not do something different,,if so keep on till you arent,
As for hides – at lower levels hides aren’t needed – the only scout skill I have is exploration (for mask scent). There are plenty of Master Scouts and rangers out there that can provide the hide you’ll need for higher-level schematics.
One thing that has always attracted me to tailoring is the social interaction – that and being able to see your handiwork. If you talk to your clientele, and spend the extra few minutes and resources to make sure the clothes are ‘just right’ you’ll have a loyal ‘core’ group of clients who’ll pass the word on to their friends. Someone’s good word is worth more than my entry on the world map IMHO.
Sorry for rambling; I hope you can get something out of the post. If you’re playing on Shadowfire look me up and I’ll be happy to either answer any questions, or give you some skill training
This is awesome guys! I really do appreciate the input!
I think I will give it a try. Thank you for the help!

Of course! Now that they added new colors armorsmith is ok, but tailor is the most fun crafting career.

Personally, after doing several crafting professions myself, and seeing many of the others through friends of mine, I don't really feel money should seriously factor into the equation when picking a profession. I think it's safe to say that you'llbe able to accumulate millions fairly easily as a master of any of the crafting professions so don't sweat it too much.
Do tailors need harvesters? yep, big time. As a novice you'll need em to keep your costs down and likely sell resources for money to supplement your tailoring. As a master you'll need em simply because it's impossible to buy every item that you need (even though I buy much more than I harvest now). Don't think of harvesters as an expense, think of them as a money-maker (which they are... big time!).
