Thread: Does decay actually DO anything?
Im not a tailor so I hope this dosen't hurt you guys, but does decay on clothing, even enhanced clohting, do anything? I tried, very unsucessfully, to repair some clothing. I got failures on every item, got the "item falls apart" message but the clothes just went to 1/1 condition and did not delete from inventory. I have a pair of medical pants in the bunch and I still seem to be getting the bonus from them too. This is an easy way around insurance and buying new clothes. So what's up?
I know what it does...
Customer: can u fix this
Me: ummm I don't fix clothing cause I might break it
Customer: [either one of these] 1) u just greedy u want me to buy new clothes 2) pleeeze i really like this drop 3) i can't afford new clothes 4) but i really like this outfit (implying I can't possibly duplicate it).
Me: well all right
Option 1: clothes repair.
Customer: wow thanks. (runs off, no tip)
Option 2: clothes repair poorly
Customer: ummm, thanks... I guess... what was your repair tool rated? (runs off, no tip)
Option 3: clothes break
Customer: why did u say u could repair it! u lousy tailor! (storms out in underpants) OR
Customer: well, now I'm naked, make me something cool (for free)... in black/red.
The answer is: clothing decay gives tailors heart attacks.
I let people know! They really need to reconsider their new decay scheme which does absolutely no one any good except for possibly some armorsmiths. Most of us want use based decay which actually does something! Instead, this decay on cloning was forced on us because someone thinks it is a *really* good idea and we have been told that it is not going away....PERIOD! Ok. I am done ranting now, so I feel better. ![]()
I'm assuming when the clothing gets to 0 it poofs, but hopefully I'll never find that out for sure, lol.
As far as repairing clothing, I've had good results doing it every time. Usually the item goes back to 990/990 or so. You need good tools however. Quality does make a difference when using them. I got a master artisan friend to make me some crates of tools using some really good copper and got them up to 95% or so. Also as I understand it the less damaged the clothing the better chance you have of repairing it. Oh, and finally, I've read that master tailors have better probability of repair then someone with say no tailoring skill using the same tools.

The problem is that right now it doesn't go poof when it reaches condition 0. Since I have not heard anything about it from the devs, I assume that this will not be fixed soon.

Wonderful, another completely non-functional feature. *sigh*, it's just unreal how bad the quality is in this game.
Well, you are not going to like hearing this, but it is very functional for armor and armorsmiths!
Um no, it inhalesvigorously for armorsmiths as well. Working with a 99.8% tool on composite that was over 50% condition, I got "the item falls apart" on 3 of 5 pieces and "repaired with minimum defects" on the other two. Granted I am not yet Master Armorsmith but I do have level 4 tech and am making decent armor. There really needs to be some gradation between total success and total failure with repairs.
Meanwhile, I am now one of the "I don't do repairs" snobs who only want to sell new items at outrageous prices...sigh.
Time to go hunting and blow off some frustration.

Well, I did not mean to say that it was good or bad for armorsmiths. Not being one, I can't really tell. But the two main things that "decay" by the new decay scheme are clothing and armor. When clothing goes to 0, it does not dissapear and is just as good as when it was first made. On the other hand, when armor goes to 0, it becomes.....clothing!
Hmm... maybe I will start buying red and blue armor boots that have decayed to 0 from people so that I can havecolored bootswhen people ask for them.
