Thread: Tailor questions.

It's been a while since I leveled my first tailor up, so my info may be outdated. With that caveat in mind:

8 lots: 2 power, 3 chem, 3 mineral. (personal, medium, or heavy as your budget allows).

Quality does not seem to matter. They removed the experimentation component on most, if not all items.

(damaged clothing from decay/deaths can be repaired with an artisan repair tool)

Sell your items however you choose. Personally via shouts, through the bazaar, or get business 3 (artisan) and set up a vendor in your house.

If tailoring (or anything associated with the game weren't fun), would you bother doing it?

I will get a house soon, taking up 2 blocks so i will be left with 8. What is the ideal way to setup those 8 blocks that would most benefit a tailor?

Get a wearables factory... this is an absolute must, since most of thehigher level items require factory-made components. I know tailors that even have 2 factories. For the rest, it depends on how you sell your wares. If you will set up a well-decorated shop, you may need to place another small house for additional storage. With 2 houses and a factory, you are left with 5 lots, which will still allow you to be self-sufficient. More info below!

Does the quality of resources matter with what i make?

No! Luckily, tailoring is a profession that isn't finicky about either the quality or the sub-type of the resources used. I hope it stays that way: if I wanted to juggle 150 different resources and mess with quality, I would have become a weaponsmith. More good news.

Your basic resources that you will probably mine yourself are: Steel, Copper, Fiberplast, Inert Petrochemical, CrystallineGemstone and Amourphous Gemstone. No requirements as to quality or the subclass of the resources. In addition you will need leather. In most cases any type of leather will do, though some schematics call for wooly or bristly hide. I am generally able to buy leather in quantity at reasonable prices. With these resources, you can make pretty much everything... only a few schematics call for rare Green Diamond Chrystalline Gemstone, for Titanium Aluminium, or for other things.

More good news: you need only Fiberplast, Inert Petrochem and Metal in quantity, and not even that much of those three. If you get a few medium chemical and mineral extractors rated at BER9 or 10, you will have no trouble supplying your own materials. Run one or 2 extractors on Fiberplast and Inert Petrochem, one on Steel or Copper, and do the occasional run over a few days for the other materials, and you will manage just fine even with just 5 lots left for harvesters. You should even be able to provide your own power if you want, with a Fusion generator.

How do you go about selling your items?

Once you get to Master Tailor, customers will find you if you wear your tag

In the mean time... what I do is run a shop with well-stocked vendors (although the last week I wasn't able to keep them that way, mea culpa). People know this shop and come for return business often. They also know they have a good chance to catch me or one of my partners there, and I regularly help out a customer personally. From time to time I offer my wares to entertainers in a cantina at a discount.

All that helps to establish your name. If your prices are reasonable, your service is good and customers know where to find you, you will see lots of return business.

Two things in addition:

- Learn your craft! Know what items you can make, what items combine well together, how to combine colors, etc. Many people will ask you for advise on what to wear and which color to choose, rather than give you specific requests for 'an exotic leotard in the 5th color on the 4th row on the color palette'.

- Run an honest business:Be patient with customers, allow them to try things before they buy even with custom made orders, have a generous return policy, etc. I have to date never had a customer run off without paying when they tried something on. Settling the bill only when you're completely done makes for both a speedy and a relaxed fitting session.

Is tailoring a fun profession?

Thanks for replies. All good news.

I'm actually looking forward to makign the paramilitary clothes, they look dam cool.

The main reason i went after tailoring is because i want to be able to build things effectively and not worry about seraching for good quality materials. Can't wait to get stuck right into it now.

Oh btw, do many guys do this profession? I was speaking to my mate and i said i was changing professions, he said jokingly "Entertainer/Tailor". Thinks i'm a **edit** now. I can kick his ass though in 1on1.

For grinding, try this macro. I flew through Domestic Arts 1-4 in less than a night with it.

Well, I'm a guy IRL, but it does seem that most tailor characters are female.

Hey folks.

I decided to become a tailor today as my TKA/Commando was just too much combat for me.

There is just a few things i need some answers on.

I will get a house soon, taking up 2 blocks so i will be left with 8. What is the ideal way to setup those 8 blocks that would most benefit a tailor?

Does the quality of resources matter with what i make?

How do you go about selling your items?

Is tailoring a fun profession?

Also I'm saing up to grind my way to tailor novice. I'm looking for about 20k unit of resources to do it. Anyone got a cheaper/efficient way of doing it?

Cheers, Juve.

I know a few male Tailors and am one myself. I wanted so bad to be a DE before launch. After checking out the schematics/abilities of droids, I changed my mind. Just made Master end of last month and still lovin it.
