Please have a look at the following post:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Development&message.id=970564
It basically asks for an option for players to be 'Invisible', i.e. not show up on the Friends list. Please have a look and see if you agree.

If its selective ( im able to show myself to my friends Im all for it)...Though i dont mind the occassional tell from a regular customer ...Hey I have a last minute Guild Ball can you do this for me.... But the 'demanding' gets old*smiles* Like ICQ.... where you can show yourself online to a select few. Sounds cool

Give the topic a nice old /bump if you like the idea.. if it gathers enough posts then *maybe* the devs'll have a look at it

May not even work because persistant folk simply will send a /tell to see if you're in fact on.

I still find that if I add to the standard AFK messagea few words of explanation,,as in; (I am in a crafting session. If you have a question or an order, please email me and I will respond as soon as possible).
This solves the problem for me, and my customers dont seem to be offended and the bothersome ones dont email me.
So while going invisible might be a possible solution, the afk message solution is in the here and now.

Oh my AFK flag is almost always on.. problem is my shop's in an extremely convenient location (outside Coronet, right on the no-build border) so the first thing most of my customers do now when they see me online is to run to my shop.. sigh..

The friends list seems to be so broken now that it's nearly useless anyway. Half the time it says my friends are on when they aren't and vice-versa.
