This is probably the wrong place for this but it has been a very helpful forum in the past so I am hoping you will forgive the question. I want to create an alternate character. I know that this will require a second subscription but when I fill out the form for the second subscription I get the "key number already registered" reply. Do I have to buy the game again (not a problem) and would i have to load it on a DIFFERENT computer (problem). I hear about people having alternate characters but would like to know how it is done - legally of course.

You need to purchase a copy of the game for each account.

You'll need to buy a second copy of the software in order to get the CD key number. You don't have to install it on the same computer, you can use your current install. Create your second account using the key from the second copy of the game and you're set

There is also a (legal) way of using two accounts at the same time on one computer, do a research on 'multiple instances' in the game guide forum.

By "using" I assume you mean "running simultaneously" correct? There really is no issue at all with having 2 accounts on the same machine. All you do is type a different username and password at the login screen. Trying to play them both at the same time though, that's a little more tricky

I found the link on how to do multiple accounts on the same computer here:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=game_guides&message.id=86761&highlight=multiple+instances#M86761
According to the posts, you need a monster pc, loads of ram, and pipe the north pole into the machine to keep it from melting into a slag heap.
/sigh Guess its back to saving up for that new machine for me after all

Unfortunately, you will have to buy a 2nd game in order to have an alt.

I used to run two instances of SWG with both toons in Coronet (on Kettemoor) and only minor slowdown…not a monster machine, but a nice one: Athlon 2400+ 2.0GHz, 1GB PC3200 400MHz DDR RAM running dual channel, GeForce4 Ti4600 8x 128MB (dual head so I can see MSN on my other monitor while playing—score

LOL to me that is a monster machine. My poor PC has half that. It takes 2-3 minutes to start crafting anything when I first log on. I have to take baby steps through any major city are the lag will throw me in to walls. Ahh, the nice refreshing blandness of Tatooine just makes my PC all giddy
