Thread: Interesting tidbit regarding vendor naming.

So last weekend, I had my two vendors listed on the planetary map, named "Unisex clothing" and "Female-only Clothing." (For some reason, I can't label garments as "unisex" but it works for vendors." I sold about 4 items. I had a little less stock, but I didn't list them until I had around 150-200 items, pretty popular stuff. This week, no sales. Friday, I changed out all the vendors, and renamed those two "-Hawt Stuff- Unisex Clothing" and "-Hawt Stuff- Female-only Clothing." I logged on this morning to see that 4 different customers had bought a ton of clothes (about 100k worth) on Saturday. As far as I know, they aren't anyone I know or had told about the shop, so they are just random people from the community who saw the planetary listing.

Interesting results, eh? I guess people like "labels" so they can remember which vendor they visited. Or maybe they think that "labeled" vendors are more likely to be stocked, or maybe will be owned by a more established/experienced crafter. Multiple vendors on the planetary map with the same "tag" may indicate a mall, which people seem to like.

I don't know what the psychology is behind it, but I will tell you that I was dumbfounded with just how well a simple name change worked. Yeah, I had to destroy my vendors and remake them, but it was definitely worth it.

Not sure this has anything to do with your story but I found it interesting nonetheless.

I had music/dance healing clothes on my vendor for a month and they got kicked back. Now when I first listed them, I sold them for about half my normal BE clothing prices because I know sometimes dancers/musicians do not have alot of credits. These clothes were +24 music/dance healing and I was selling them for just 8000 credits. I relisted them once they bounced back for 24,000 credits (which is how I normally price BE clothes) and they sold the night after I relisted them and increased the price. My guess is that people who come to my shop, know my pricing scheme so if they see something listed for 8000 credits they assume the bonus is only +8. That's the only thing I can figure.

I also had luck renaming vendors and getting more buisness. I find that the more descriptive your vendors are, the better. Wookie vendor, healing outfits, combat clothes, jewerly etc seem to work well.
