You can put skill enhancement modifications in the slots. There are some pretty good ones around. Some higher humanoid mobs drop them or buy them on the bazaar.
To the bes of my knowledge only those that look like a tape work though not the ones that look like plates.

Can anyone give me an example of what one of these socket fillers actually does?

I have one now (that looks like an armour plate) that give +2 to pistol accuracy and +2 to pistol accuracy while standing.

I *HAD* one that looked like tape that gave a -2 bonus to cover - however i put that in a black socketed jacket (with 2 sockets) and nothing happened.

The jacket still says 2 sockets, doesnt seem to have any diffrent stats - and when I put it on .. nothign changes for my skills.

I am of course ... now hesitant to use this cool pistol one

aside from the fact that I cant find a tailor on Bloodfin to reproduce the Bright Orange Reinforced Jacket that I clamed off my first NPC kill. If I could get one of those socketed .. i would try it

What do you put in socketed items?

Also where can you get these things? Can they be made, what mobs drop them?

i have a whole bunch of the plate ones, what can i do with them?

Give them to me?
