Thread: Wish: Ability to Re-Dye things.

Some customers have come up to me requesting that I re-dye a piece of clothing they owned that had sockets in it. This didn't seem that far fetched, it seems like with a repair kit you should be able to. Has this been brought up before?

It would be cool if I could change the color and name of something I already made to suit a picky customer.

I've had more people ask me to re-dye their clothes than to make them clothes. I think it would make a great addition to the tailoring profession.

Until clothing decay is fixed, I'm against this.

When clothes decay and need to be repaired, then redyeing clothing as no effect on the market. Change the color, it doesn't matter. You'll need a new one in a few months.

Without clothing decay, then the person can just change the same outfit's color over and over again. No need to buy new clothing, just get it dyed.

My thoughts were maybe we would need crafted dye from a chef to change the color of clothes, it would make another money sink and help chefs a little. Plus, we could charge for the service if we used components.

Just thought of something else, if we had a factory run of something, we could just dye one of those from a crate, instead of needing to make it anew.

PS. Maybe only the original crafter could rename/re-dye?

I'd only be for this after clothing decay starts working, but there are a couple of other conditions for me as well. Dying should have some kind of very negative effect on the clothing. Such as permanent reduction of max condition (even more so than simply repairing the item, maybe by 200-250 points) and aninability to dye things that have a lower thana certain amount ofmax condition (that way each item could only be dyed once or twicebefore having to be replaced). And maybe things that are colored from certain color selections (like the "metal" choices) couldn't be dyed.

It should also be a tailor only ability (preferably evena grant given somewhere in the experimentation line) so that every artisan with some Dom Arts that they took because they wanted Master Artisan can't just dye their own clothes when they want a new look. I know some people might think that it should be available at lower level to give Dom Arts folks coming up an extra source of xp and income, but I disagree. I don't want every Master Artisan or Chef to be able to dye all their friends looted items our most popular color... black.

I don't usually post this much on a thread I start, but...

Ideas on re-dying:

1. You can only re-dye things you made: This would prevent NPC drops from ever being re-dyed, and would allow smaller time crafters a chance for more repeat business (and extra exp). I doubt the people with huge shops and tons of business would want to be bothered with it.

2. Use chef components as dye: Lots of people make tye-dye with organic dyes, cabbage water and kool-aid (stretches organic ) come to mind. Chefs would be more complimentary towards other classes.

3. Allow Factory components to be re-dyed: That way, making a 25 run of shirts would allow you to pop one out and dye it for a customer instead of needing to carry around tons of resources.

4. It could be like slicing: only one dye change and the item is "spent".

I don't see a problem with redying drops and items from other tailors. As long as clothing decay comes first that is.

I really like the idea of getting our dyes from a chef. They need all the help they can get and a nice big market for themwould be wonderful.

And this would be one more useful thing for a factory.

Nice idea, but under the conditions already mentioned above (repeated here for clarity):

1. Clothing decay needs to be working first.

2. Only dye items you made yourself.

3. Dying negatively affects the item’s quality.

I like the idea of using Chef-created items for dying, but doesn’t that go against what the profession is? They make food, not paint. How would you feel if you created an exquisite Deneelin Fizz Pudding and someone used it to dye their shoes? And putting in special ‘dye’ objects seems to reduce them to paint makers.

As for factory items… I would prefer those items coming out undyed (optionally). So that you have to dye it to make it the right color, without it affecting quality as it would for clothes already dyed once.

Not that I think I’ll ever use a factory to create clothes… seems superfluous to create so many of the same clothes. But who knows.
