Thread: Odd Pricing Observation

I've been experiencing something and wanted to see if anyone else has this happen to them.

generally, i only sell special order items, and keep a minimally stocked vendor.

so last night, someone sent me a tell, asking for a +16 Melee/Ranged Defense Formfitting Undershirt, and a +17 Healing Efficiency pair of Crafter's Pants. Now normally, I charge 40k for each of these items, so his total cost would come to 80k. I was hanging out in Bestine at the time, so i made the items there, and hopped in my space ship to meet him at the Smuggler Outpost on Endor (if im at a Starport, i don't mind travelling to meet a customer at a different starport since with JTL travel is free. So when i put the 2 items in the trade window, he types in 160k as payment, and says to keep the extra.

now i don't know if my prices are just really low or something, but this happens all the time. people are always paying me alot more than i ask them to. if i insist on only accepting the asking price, they pay that much in trade window, than send me a /tip with extra money, and insist that i keep it.

so am i just running into lots of generous people? or are my prices so low that people are willing to pay more? or is everyone on Lowca crazy?

does anyone else have this happen to them?

People always pay for good service.

Usually i just say pay me what you want and i get a much better price than if the items sat on a vendor, the difference being is i usually travel to the customer and make their specific requirements.

sunrunner is a rich server, more oft then not if you seta reasonable price or say tip what you think it's worth, your gonna get triple of what you exspect.

For BE I do think even lower prices a rare now, but people are appreciating the fact of it being around again,
and a Tailor willingly making it {i kick scream and scratch anyone who asks me for BE } they will pay all they have to encourage you to do more.

but could just be everyone on lowca is loca

The thing is, that my 40k per most BE items is already making a HUGE profit. Healing Efficiency tissues only cost me 5k per tissue, and Melee/Ranged cost 12k per tissue. and think about it, a Formfitting Undershirt only costs what, 500cr or so to make without the BE, so i'm already making a HUGE profit margin, but hey, if they want to increase my profits even more, than no complaints here.

I think it is just that people appreciate good service. I've been tipped 50k for making one outfit that I would normally sell for about 2k...

I'm thinking about raising my be prices so I don't have to stock as much. I used to sell them for 3k per tissue + cost of the clothing, and I was making a decent profit on that, but it is inconvienent for me to stock now, so I don't want to do it as much. I'm thinking of raising everything to 10k if it uses 1 tissue and 15k if it uses 2. I really don't need money any more, but I don't like having empty vendors. Of course, with my luck, everyone will buy them since they are higher priced and therefore "better".

People appreciate that you take the time to do it....

I was in my shop the other day, and a guy asked for 2 custom outfits.. they probably would of cost him anywhere from 8-12k.. and he paid me 50k for each without even asking the price. The guy after him..he tipped me 75k for a 10k outfit. When people ask for something and ask me the price, they always say is that it?! They truly appreciate that you take the time to make them something.

ive noticed that getting colors right... and knowing your pallete options gets you bigger money. when i first started taking custom orders i floundered a bit... and then... as i got better at knowing the colors of items, i can crank out a special order in no time at all and 85% of the time on the very first try.

This sort of "experience" seems to net me big tips as people recognize that i actually took the time to know what im doing... that i took the time to think of somthing a little more creative and really put forth an effort to be the best.

as an aside just to toot my own horn... 7 out of the 8 people who ordered an all black outfit and then agreed to let me run with it and "surprise them" have told me they like their new outfit better than the all black they were ordering! thats 7 of 8 on first attempts. 8 of 8 if given a second chance to wow them .
