Hi there I'm new to tailoring and have decided to give the business thing a try

I have absolutely no idea what to charge. I don't want to sell cheap for barely any profit.. but I don't want to be outrageously expensive. Somewhere in the area of a nice profit .. like in the middle.

Does anyone have a price list I could follow?

Also .. how do you all name your items? I know some people put like a logo on theirs and others put By <name>

Is it Odd to name things like: Smock by Moibeal ?

I use Feen's prices.

I base all my prices very roughly on niveas. The link to her site is www.thehonorempire.org/swg/nivea.

Some things i charge more for, some less but its a good guide imo.

As for naming things I have always added "by tally" to the end of the item name and put the colour in brackets at the end. This helps me in the sense that when a customer sees an item in my store in say "Ice Blue", i know exactly which it is they are wanting. Also on clothing with bio-engineered stats I will add which stats they have. For example, "Swoop Helm with Medical Bonuses". This is more for display purposes to get people to examine the clothing in my store.

I have not, however, and will never change the name of my clothing away from the original string. This tends to confuse customers when they then speak with another tailor or I get a tell from someone saying "my friend bought "disco pants" from a tailor, now i want some"

Some people use a brand name. I am also switching to a brand name soon due to a collaboration between the crafters in our guild to promote the guild more by using its name. I once had a novice tailor approach me about this, as she had a brand name she wanted but was worried that no one would relate it to her. Always remember that your name will appear as the item creater no matter what you name the item

I am still working on pricing. I use Nivea's pricingand Feen's pricingas guides, but usually I end up having to mark things down when they don't sell.

I have 3 boxes left til Master. I figure I will work more on pricing then.

Ordinarily, I just put the colour (and secondary, if there is one) in the title: "Pleated skirt, blue/paler trim", for instance. I don't put my name in the title, but then, there's not a huge glut of tailors in the city I sell in -- if there are there, then it's probably worth doing. *g*

As for pricing, I go by a combination of resource weight (are the components factory made, are there rare materials, and so on) and popularity. Which is why, when Iwas startingout, shorts sold for more than ribbed shirts -- and Spec Ops Dusters still cost more than Desert Command Jackets.. *grins*

Use that pricing list as a guide, but also check around the bazaar and other tailors to see what they charge so that you get an idea of what the market value is.

I notice other tailors will put stuff up on the bazaar at a price I think is too low because other people have. But you should look at those items and see who is selling them. Some guy may just be selling his wardrobe to make room in his inventory, or they may be damaged looted items. Even if another tailor has one priced low to compete with that guy, I will still list mine at the price I usually do becuase even if those two go first, mine will go after that, and they usually all sell in the same day.

Just keep playing around with it. if you make something and it flies off the shelves at the price you had it, raise it. If you can't move the item, lower the price.

Just be sure to have fun

the prices on your server might be a lot different, you should ask tailors on your server to see what prices are like there (nicely of course, or visit a few shops)

for Ahazi, nivea's prices are a bit high, so i made up my own list (www.cs.ucsb.edu/~pappi/prices.htm) using the calculator on zachary.com. i had tohack a few numbers (including the master multiplier), do some rounding up/down, and raise prices on popular items (like dusters). as far as i know, my prices are pretty average, if not higher...
