Since I've been running around in my newbie gear for some time and I'm not planing on getting any armour, I tought it would be nice to get some clothing that suits my marksman-scout-medic. But I have absolutely know idea about clothin. And browsing these boards the first impression I got was that Tailors are fed up with stupid customers who don't know what they want or want just something black. Guilty on both counts, but this post is to help me with the first and if black is so common I think I get something else.

So, I have a few questions:

  • Do clothing provide some bonuses? (I suppose not)

  • Does clothing have a quality that effects something? (I suppose not if there are no bonuses)

  • I don't even know what clothing one can use. In what places one can wear clothes?

  • There are several layers of clothing, right?

  • Do clothing and armor use the same locations? (Meaning that If you wear vest, you can't wear a bullet-vest)

  • Is there locations that are only for armor, only for clothing and hybrid locations?

  • Do you guys keep showrooms or something where one could come and look for the clothing you have to offer? (like in RL shop)

  • Does one piece of clothing have only one color or do they have multiple colors that can be chosen? (e.g. white shirt with blue stripes)

I'll be visiting one of you guys soon

Hi there, just a quick note about what we can do. Clothing does not provide any bonuses unless the tailor puts in bio-engineered cloths. Unfortunately the consesus seems to be that the bio-engineered cloths don't currently work, although some swear they do. Tailors can make sockets in the clothing as well, up to 4 sockets for most items. Skill enhancing attachments that you find from looted corpses can then be added in the sockets, giving youthe bonuslisted on the attachment. Clothing can be worn anywhere, although armor and clothing generally take up the same space, so with the exception of a bodysuit or shirt, clothing and armor tend to be mutually exclusive. There are a variety of pants, shirts, jackets, robes, dresses, skirts, shoes, boots, sashes, belts, packs, gloves, hats, vests, necklaces, and rings available. Many items of clothing can have more than one color while there are some that can only have one, it's just dependant on the article of clothings color options. Many tailors (myself included) have showrooms of items you can look at. Most of us also have several vendors where you can purchase color coordinated clothing we've already made. Most of us will also be happy to assist in making a custom set of clothing, although we would prefer you to mail us for an appt due to the large number of tells we receive even before we are fully logged in! That said, if you let us know what server you are on we can let you know who we are and where our shops are!! Looking for vendors on the planetary map can show you a tailor location close to you as well. Hope this helped some.

  • Do clothing provide some bonuses? (I suppose not)

First answer : no.

However :

1) You can make socketed cloth (up to 4 for master tailors). the number of sockets you can get while making a cloth is completely random (depending on your skill in tailoring), so it may take multiple tries for a tailor to get a 4 socket item. There are dropped items (power ups, the ones looking like ribbons, not the ones looking like armor plates that go on armor), that can be "drag and dropped" on the sockets. Many of the bonuses however do not work or boost pointless or non existent (remnants of beta ...) skills. Note that the only thing tailors can do is create a socketed item. Tailors can't add sockets to a pre existing cloth item, they can't make the powerups, and you don't need to be a tailor to attach powerups to the item.

2) Bio Engineers can make special tissues that can be used in the process of cloth crafting so that the finished product has varied bonuses (depending on the tissue used : myoflex give entertainer healing bonuses, confidence cloth give intimidate and warcry bonuses, etc ...). Tailors must make the cloth using the bio engineer tissue (ie : you can't add bio eng tissues to an already existing cloth item). Due to different issues, only a small number of clothes can be tailored with bio eng tissues. Better check with a tailor before ordering. Please not that all of those bonuses are BROKEN and non functional at the moment. It is apparently acknowledged by the devs, no ETA for fixes ...

  • Does clothing have a quality that effects something? (I suppose not if there are no bonuses)

No. The number of sockets is purely a "luck" check (assembly skill), only the quality of the bio engineered item matter of bio enhanced clothing.

  • I don't even know what clothing one can use. In what places one can wear clothes?

It's diverse. Cloth slots and stacking is a very complicated issue, that will warrant a few FAQ pages. Usually, common sense work well (ie : you can wear a jacket over a shirt, but you can't wear a duster over a jacket ...), but not always. "Similar" items don't have always the same "stackabilty" which makes things even more complicated. Careful : some robes (grand ball, grand healers, luxurious ...) and all bandoliers don't stack with backpacks !

SorryI can't elaborate more, it's very complicated, and each item is its own exception. Better have a few ideas of clothing outfits in mind and check with a tailor.

  • There are several layers of clothing, right?

Aye, see above.

  • Do clothing and armor use the same locations? (Meaning that If you wear vest, you can't wear a bullet-vest)

Absolutely. The only thing that you can wear reliably with armor is a shirt (go "under" the armor vest). For other locs (including boots, headwear, gloves ...) you have to choose.

  • Is there locations that are only for armor, only for clothing and hybrid locations?

See above

  • Do you guys keep showrooms or something where one could come and look for the clothing you have to offer? (like in RL shop)

Absolutely : check your server's tailor shops. You can preview items using the bazaar/vendor interface too.

  • Does one piece of clothing have only one color or do they have multiple colors that can be chosen? (e.g. white shirt with blue stripes)

With a few exceptions, you can often change two colors on the item, so a white shirt with blue stripes is perfectly possible. Keep in mind however that for some items, or for one of the two colors of one item, there might be a limited palette (the ugly and much decried "leather" palette, the "metal" palette, the "wookie" palette).
