Thread: Why Tailor Experimentation on Durability was NOT useless

As an amorsmith, i tear through fiberplast panels, synthcolth panels, and reinforced fiberplast panels regularly. Now for a long time, i didnt think that the durability mattered much to me, as i didnt think it was a stat that would affect the quality of my armor.

So there I am making Chitin armor with fiberplast panels that were 36% experimented Durability. The armor is coming out at 15-16% effectiveness against kinetic, and every third piece is ruined by a critical failure. not so hot. Then I run out of those panels, and start using Fiberplast panels that had 65% experimentation on them. All the other materials were exactly the same. Now the armor is coming out with many more amazing successes, practically no critical fails, and has a kinetic resistance of 20-21%. Much better i would say.

Tailors need to be able to experiment on quality, even if only for armorsmiths sake. Now all fiberpast panels i make have no stats, AND MY ARMOR SUCKS GOAT. thanks devs.

Hah, I was wondering about that. My armorsmith buddies said they liked to buy from me because my (well experimented) cloth and panels gave them better results than many people's.

I was afraid of this.

I don't know if this is just a fluke, or a bug caused by recent patches, or as a result of the removal of durability experimentation but I have several of the armorsmiths that I sell cloth to report similar experiences.

I am willing to say it is directly linked to the removal of durability.

I had people from several different planets come to my shop to purchase my cloth, as they knew I experiemented on it and used the best resources available.

Now, anybody who has the field wear tree can make cloth as good as the next guy.

I haven't paired with one of my armorsmiths to testthe effects ofthispost-patch, but I will try to do so and post the results here. Granted, it will be difficult to do so as there are no hard durability numbers anymore.

In a somewhat related note, has anybody noticed that items made with high durability resources usually give more sockets than those that aren't? I noticed this a little over the weekend and will test it as well and post the results here. Seems kinda funny for that to happen if durability had no effect over the quality of the end product.

Hey, since I made a Star Wars Quake III mod 5 years ago, does that make me an SOE dev??

The only fiberplast I used once I got to expiriementation 3 was 900+. oq. The polymer? The best I could find, same with the metal. I expiremented and provided armorsmiths with panels of up to 85% durablity. The armorsmiths who came to me for these panels told me they made a great difference.

Now, they tell me thier armor effectiveness is reduced since I can no longer produce any panel with any mersurability of quality. But hey! Take experimentation away.. its useless right?

I am hoping this was an oversight, and the durability on the sub-components such as fiber panels, etc, that get used by other professions, where the quality of the item DOES matter gets put back in.

Yes, this is what I posted about the FIRST day that we lost experiementation. No one said a thing. I posted that when a master tailor experiements cloth to 65% it makes a HUGE difference for armorsmiths...and they seek us out for that experiementation. I knew about this because an armorsmith friend of mine had taken tailoring so he could make his own cloth and panels, but unless he was grinding he ended up coming to me. I asked him why and he said the exact same thing that you guys are saying here. A master tailor experimenting on the cloth and panels makes a large difference in failure and better stats.

Now, all cloth is the same, all panels are the same. No matter whether its a tailor that JUST made fieldwear II or a master tailor, its all the same. This is one reason that folks sought out master tailors beyond the items they could make. It was a quality thing.

They took away our quality...and gave us colors. Does anyone wonder why we weren't leaping to the boards to say how much we loved the new colors, how happy were were with the patch? Taking away quality, taking away hope of decay for clothing and patting us on the head with ONE palette improved by 55 colors really doesn't do it for me.

Yup, my armorsmith clients that bought panels from me LOVED that I could experiment them all the way to the top. This is a REAL issue for armorsmiths.

When we get a new correspondant, this'll be a BIG issue to list.

As long as they don't fix it before I'm able to sell the crates I have pre patch

Probably the biggest thing that ticked me off was that they did this in a hotfix, ie. was never on test center, if it had been put on test then we could have given feed back on it. But they screwed up and did a hotfix.
