To answer your question regarding the worth.I would say it depends on what your looking to get out of a profession. I enjoy the creative aspect of the profession, making outfits, trying different combinations, etc. The time it takes to master is subjective. It can take very little time if you grind your way through. It can take a long time if you tailor in your spare time.

It can be profitable if you get a good customer base for yourself. This requires more now adays then setting up a vendor, you have to keep it well stocked. With our color selection and variety of items, that task can be daunting if you don't enjoy it.Not to mention, customer service is a must to keep your clients.

Resources for tailors is one easy part as quality at this time doesn't matter. This means you can get the cheapest qualities and still produce the same quality of clothing that other tailors can make.

I enjoy working with a small customer base. They take care of me, and I take care of them with quick order fills and attention to detail. They also are adventerous and like to wear those items that no one else thinks of putting together.

This profession is really what you make of it, like most other classes in this game.

Good luck to you,

The part of tailoring that I love the most are the fittings. I have the walk-in customers who buy off my vendor, and then I have the customers who come in and roleplay with me. Because I really am not in much need of credits, I tend to charge very little for those who roleplay and have fun with A-Ti, however, it wasn't with tailoring that I made money. I can make more money running missions in the time it takes me to fully stock my vendors than I can when my vendors sell-out (which they don't, because I get very hyper about restocking them).

The thing that I had to learn about tailoring that would save me from complete burnout was how to say no. It sounds easy to do, but it isn't always. I am at the point now where I am not afraid of saying no, and am prepared to deal with the reactions of long-time and new customers. Just the other day I had a customer who had to have a two-tone formal skirt in black and white. I'm in my PA city running missions and just laying low, but I tell her sure, meet me at the the shuttle port. Come to find out, she's in another city. When I tell her she needs to come to my city, she gets very upset. At that point, I learned to appreciate those two wonderful letters.

  • She doesn't need a Master Tailor to make her the skirt (it's not like it goes up in value)

  • She can probably find something similar on any number of vendors that populate the area, in fact I found 2 on the bazaar, but she would have to go and get them

  • It's a two-tone formal skirt and have never worked with her as a customer before

  • She wasn't accomodating to what I was doing, and instead wanted me to be accomadating to her demands

I looked at my boyfriend and grinned, "you know how you said I needed to learn how to say no?"

"Yeah?"

"Well, wanna watch me do it?"

He hops off of his desk and runs to my little area, reads the text box and doesn'thold his breath. I have been known to cave in before.

'I'm sorry, if you aren't willing to come to Valshara, I can't help you. However, you shouldn't have a problem finding any other tailors with the appropriate skill, it's not exactly a Master Tailor item.'

No response from her so I go and grab 2 more missions and some more spices (I'm a tailor and a Twi'lek to boot, I need all the help I can get). About 10 minutes later I get a tell from her.

'I just told all my friends what a **edit** you are and my guild and to never buy anything from you again.'

Ok, I was tempted to ask her just who her friends were so I would be sure to ban them from my shop and place them on /ignore, just so she wouldn't have to go to all the trouble of telling them how mean I was, but I didn't. I just chuckled, killed my mission and put her on ignore.

Tailoring can be a whole lot of fun. You just have to remember that it's ok to say no sometimes, in fact it can be the best thing you ever do as a tailor.
