Thread: Universal Color Palette Idea

The current color palettes used are quite different between professions. And this makes color-matching between the products & services of the differing professions difficult or even impossible to achieve at times. And as someone who enjoys the more creative side of the game, I believe we can improve this system to make coloring much more user friendly to us all.

I am proposing a universal color palette screen that would have numbered colors arranged in either one universal palette or divided in several universal palettes, that are used by all professions that require color choice...such as Armorsmith, Bio-Engineer, Image Designer, Tailor, etc. This universal palette would have the following characteristics:

1. Regardless of the profession being used or the item being colored, the palette screen would appear the same, with every color represented by an assigned number & by an assigned geographical spot on the palette screen.

2. If an item or ID function has color restrictions, then those restrictions should be represented by an “X” or other irregular shading effect to show that those colors are not available to select for that particular item/function, etc. leaving the ones that are selectable in their usual spots on the palette.

3. All numbered colors would produce the same shade of color on all items that allow that color as an option. So if a dark red shade numbered 356 was available for both Lip Color & for a Heavy Reinforced Jacket, then they should be a perfect color-match.

There are a couple other things regarding color in the game that would either be more helpful to us crafters, or that are currently flawed & need fixing.

1. We should be able to examine an existing item & see which colors were used so we can color-match new items for our customers.

2. We should be able to see the color choices BEFORE crafting the items, not during the last phase of crafting after our resources are already gone.

3. The pre-colored shading done to certain craft-able items needs to either be completely removed or replaced by a gray-scale form of shading. The current added color shading makes color-matching next to impossible & is a huge annoyance to crafters. This is probably most noticeable with wookiee clothing items but may be present elsewhere as well.

4. Black needs to be Black, & notDark Green as it currently is on many items.

I’d love to hear your opinion on this or further ideas on this topic.

Didn't read it all other then the universal palette and each color having a specific number that carries over... I agree. I actually was thinking of the same thing. Wondering why each color can't be assigned a specific number. And with universal, I just want all the clothing to share the same palette and perhaps armor too.

I've posted this on a few other profession forums & it seems to be getting favorable responces from them as well. Maybe if we all band together somehow we can get colors right in this game for all professions.

Well right now for tailors, #7 is a Dark dark dark green (one version ofblack) and #91 is a dark charcoal grey (other people's version of black) But it would be nice if every single colour in the galaxy used a single palette so customers can say they want a shirt to match their Speederbike. Speederbike is colour #154, so no problem, oneForest Green shirt coming up

Its a good idea, and one that will make life easier for all crafters. Who knows, one day it might just happen *fingers crossed*

Excellent Idea. This would go a long way in being able to craft custom orders for customers. When they ask for blue, they can tell us they want blue #293 and not make us guess and have to recraft several versions until we get just the one they want.

The other thing this profession really needs in my opinion is to actually be able to see the necklaces when we are crafting so we are not guessing how they will turn out.
