It ain't easy being green.
The other thread really doesnt answer her question.... and I also was wondering the same thing...
Just consider it a topic for social discussion =)
what skill line is better/most popular/worst/least popular to skill up first, and why?
Inquiring minds want to know 8)
like it or not, cloaks and dusters are usually the quickest sellers -- going up field wear gets you those, and the crates that the armorsmiths need
i ended up going partially thru formal first since i was mainly catering to entertainers. that worked out pretty well, until i was constantly getting requests for crates from the local armorsmiths, then i went up to field wear 2, then finished tailoring and formal, then back to field, then did casual.
that worked out pretty well for me
I think it kind of depends on who you know and deal with the most. If you have a lot of female and dancer friends I've found out that a good route is casualwear 3 then formalwear 1 (Keeping a steady stock of cloaks will cut down on some grinding as they sell better than the cartridge belts) That way you have Cloaks Bustiers, Long skirts, dress shoes and slippers as well as a couple of interesting, pretty, but rarely worn dresses in the lower levelsthat are quite marketable in the right color scheme. I.e. loose dress.
Fieldwear 1-4 could almost be standalone. If you plan to cater to a lot ofmen andfightersand want some things that almost everyone likes this is a good way to go. but i reccomend you have tailoring 1 so that you can color things a red of some variety. I have lost count of the red and black paramilitary camos I've sold. Plus you get those lovely 299 xp cartridge belts (in practice mode) at Field 4 if you're more of a cut-to-the-chase type and need a good grind.
Formalwear above 1 without tailoring is almost useless for sales as far as I've seen. Most of the dresses in 3 or 4 look downright rancid in anything other than black, pink, white and slate blue if you only have the limited color pallette.
I went the first route and did pretty well.
I guess as far as grinding goes, if your goal is "master tailor or bust" probably the field wear is the place to start. If you are not in a huge hurry to get to master, or need to consider what you can sell along the way, you might need to take a look around your surroundings and analyze a bit who is selling what, what the prices are like, etc. A few trips to the cantina, and a few trips to the bazar should be revealing.
For me, on my planet, and on my server, I chose casual wear first simply because that niche seemed to be under-served and I knew there would be good demand for it (and I was right, it has worked out very well!). There were quite a number of tailors doing the field wear stuff, and few doing casual.
The final consideration is probably your "lifestyle". Whether you prefer selling primarily to the warrior types, in say hospitals or out in the field, or entertainers and artisans, say in the cantina or at the bank.
Field I and II give you components that other classes (armorers) can use.. Synth Cloth and Reinforced Fiber Panels.
Back Packs also sell.. to any class of people just because of the carrying capacity.
BH and Spec Ops are the ones that most people want..
Field III gives you Spec Ops Duster.. which sell nice as well.
Field IV gives you Gunman Duster which sell well and Cart Belt which grind like no other item.
After that, I'd flip-flop back and forth between Casual and Tailoring..
Cloaks at Casual III give great XP and sell very well, but require hides..
There are nice boots and entertainer items in casual which also sell well.
As someone mentioned, the Formal Line without Tailoring is pretty harsh... get your technique to IV before heading up the formal line..
Also, if you're looking for free advertising.. if you hit Tailoring IV, you can swap out 'Novice Tailor' for 'Expert Tailor'.. not sure how much extra business it brings in, but I like the way it looks better than Novice or Clothier or any of the other titles..
If you twisted my arm, I'd say that Technique is more important than Casual only because of colors and reduced failure.. but after 2 boxes, it's boring because you don't have anything new to make..
I went:
Field I-IV
Tailoring I and II
Casual I
Tailoring III
Casual II
Tailoring IV
Casual III and IV
Formal I and II
2 boxes to go..
One hint.. don't whimp out and start another line when you hit the level III... you'll regret it in the end.. With 57K for Formal III and 70K for Formal IV, that's 127K to master.. it seems so close, yet so far.. I can't imagine if I had 3 level IV boxes at 70K each left.....
