Thread: An idea for getting new schematics that will stay rare-ish.
I'm sure that there will be plenty of "kinks" in this idea, but I thought it would be really cool if tailors could get quests that award them with random, limited-use schematics based on skill level.
A story line for this might be that a special tailor npc needs a certain pair of pants delivered to a customer on another planet for a party. You make them (these would be from a schematic you already have so people couldn't just start the quest and decide whether to do them or not according to the schematic they would get) deliver them to the other npc, and get a schematic for a new tailoring item that can only be used anywhere from 2-10 times.
Include the hooded cloaks that actually cover the head,The non-craftable "robe" that used to frequent npc loot drops, New dresses, hats, jackets, skirts, shoes anything!... I would get a kick out of getting sent to dathomir to deliver a dress to a nightsister and being rewarded a schematic to make a piece of her clothing! People would gladly buy the unique items. This would also give the newer tailors chances to have a few things that sell well and help them get on their feet.
What do you guys think?
Kabuk'man Enwyp'dee
Novice Tailor
(but getting better)
Tatooine
Naritus
Also, it would make it highly unprofitable to sell clothing NOT from these quests as a comparison. Running the stupid mission over and over to get the one you want would be worse than grinding. Or you could do it once and just flood the market with that one item.
Actually, the number of new clothes they'd have to add would be HUGE to prevent everyone from flooding the market with these "rare" items. Just make a factory schematic with a production run of 1000.
All in all I think it's a really, really bad idea. Sorry!
What I would love to see is involving tailors more into the faction war. At the momment I see no reason for my profession to be either Rebel or Imperial, I dont have much fighting skills so destroy missions are no use.
Maybe we can get recruited by whichever side we chose and do tailoring missions for our chosen alliance eventually for each faction lvl we achieve a new schematic is awarded instead of pets etc, like Faction Uniforms. Instead of making do and trying our best to match/copy the uniforms people are picking up off the movies, we can offer them the real thing.
It would certainly make post Master a bit more interesting! ![]()
I love the idea of quest schematics, but I'd rather they didn't be limited-use. If they were, it wouldn't make them much rarer because folks would just run the missions to get them over and over.
I'd suggest maybe having a few new schems that come from easy delivery missions, but then having some that are harder to get and may require multiple missions (like how they do the theme parks). Maybe we'd have to travel to a remote part of one of the more dangerous planets or look for a certain difficult-to-find NPC. I know anything involving combat may be hard for those with no combat skills, but still not impossible, you could just find or hire a fighter to go along on the adventure.
Basically what you are asking for, however one step removed, is a Drop or Quest that gives an item that tailors can't make.
This is a bad thing.
How would you react if there was some quest that gave one piece of clothing that was in a color and a style that PC tailors couldn't make? It would make me mad because those drops/quests would produce something that I cannot compete with. Well, you are asking for the same thing except ONE tailor would be able to make it.
Also the assets involved to create unique clothing (Artist has to visualize then render, graphics must be downloaded to clients, 3d performance hit because more models are being used) are not justified in an MMORPG where you want to create once and reuse over and over.
I like your thinking, but it isn't practical in MMORPG terms. Don't get discouraged though!
Ehh i guess i'd be happy if they'd add that frilly nice robe that drops but we can't make titled "robe" hood-up cloaks, normal vests, those little uncraftable loot drop pants called "pants" (as an alternative to hot pants) some sort of cap and a few more attractive masculine shirts and skimpier dresses and shirts.
Faction perk clothing is a very good idea as well and maybe schematics that are only available during a certain time period or "limited time" schematics. Keep things exciting.
Yes yes you're right I'm nuts.

There are already quest rewards that tailors can't make. One of the Rebel theme park missions gives thehat that the rebels are wearing on Endor in Return of the Jedi. There's also a robe that drops as loot that isn't craftable. Tailors also don't have the schematic for the vests that Novice Scouts start the game wearing. So they've already spent the time testing and creating art for things that aren't craftable.
The items wouldn't have to be unique to each and every character, I don't think anyone is suggesting that the schematic rewardsbe clothing that the artists spend time creating and only onecharacter (or even a tiny group) can ever learn. It's just an idea about how to get schematics for tailors (and this would work for any other crafting class) that aren't based on skill boxes. Every tailor would still have the potential to do those missions and get those same schematics.
He's not asking for a drop that tailors can't make. He's asking for some kind of reward schematic that tailors canmake, but they need to earn it in a way other than grinding up the levels. Which I think is a really cool idea, and something many of us have been pushing for since beta.
The idea would solve several issues that players keep bringing up. For one thing, it would mean that every crafter with the exact same skill levels didn't have the same schematics. Instead of getting every single schemat Master Tailor, even the masters would have new styles to look forward to. Lower level tailors could do some of the missions along the way to reaching master to give them a break from straight crafting. Eventually, most long-termtailors would still wind up with most of these bonus schematics, but it would provide a little more variation between the characters and also give us each more goals. And the devs could keep adding more whenever they wanted. Cool quests with fun rewards are great content, and that would be helpful since many folks seem to think the game is lacking in content so far. ![]()
If this did happen.. and we did get a few new schems I thought of some that wouldnt be too hard for the artists to get together.
A 1 piece swimsuit-like bodysuit (A bit like a pair of hot pants and a light bustier together with straps) Maybe with a bit of a leather look to it. (No Please that doesn't mean make it in the leather pallette)
A form-fitting mini skirt
Full-length baggy pants, but only for the sake of the money they'd make us.
Kilt-like skirts (maybe similar to the wookiee waist wraps) that men could equip
I'll remember the rest later.
They could easily be implemented as 'reward' pieces.
Similar to UO Bulk Order deeds .... where a tailor could get a deed for an order of one item in bulk from an NPC every few hours, and then make the items on that deed. If the deed was handed in with all the items, the tailor would be rewarded with an item (special colours of cloth for lower level deeds - colours unobtainable by dyes ingame).
At higher levels, the deeds would be for entire outfits - eg 25 skirt, blouse, shoes, jacket. This could only be filled by the tailor first managing to collect separate deeds for the same items at the same quantity, so they'd first have to have a 25 Skirt deed, a 25 Blouse deed, a 25 Shoes deed ... etc, and make all the items, before handing the Bulk Outfit deed in.
This resulted in a much more exclusive reward ... items for the home, items with special qualities, etc.
I'd like to see a syatem similar to this implemented - and from a low level, so that even lower tailors had something to work towards.
Ohhhnoooo you said the "U" Word!!!
You're right though. Something similar would be pretty cool =)
