So from what I've been reading, the crafting "quests" are nothing short of a total debacle. You craft 5 master level items and get back 100-200 credits in return. That is neither fun, nor satisfying, nor challenging, nor profitable (just what was the goal of this excercise anyway, what in the hell were they trying to achieve?).
Ok, so time to be constructive, here's how to do it right:
1) Artisan goes into the artisan guild, meets guy, yea yea, just like it is now.
2) Artisan gets quest based on his level and profession, and has a choice if he/she is multi-talented.
3) Artisan gets some random schematic for some nonesense item just like the artisan missions do today, only it is one of a huge list of such schematics, each one requires getting some very specific (e.g. Rori wild wheat) resources in small quantitiesto make it (artisans all have surveying, this is not a problem).
4) Artisan brings back completed item and presents it to the guy at the guild
5) Artisan is then given not credits, but a component that is specific to his/her level and profession. For example, for a master tailor it is maybe an "exceptional synthetic cloth". This component can then be used in one of a number of new schematics for desirable (but non-essential) items. And example might be an alternate style of paramilitary cammos (maybe with a different color palette anddifferent style pockets) or something along those lines.
So to summarize: We have somewhat of a challenge (getting some specific resources) to make something we're not already stockpiling. And in return we get the satisfaction of being able to make a product that we wouldn't otherwise be able to make and offer it to the public as a "limited edition" item, thus making it special but non-essential.
Note: I wouldn't want to see any major, huge selling, essential items become quest-reward type of deals, but just being able to offer something a little "different" for variety sake.

Ok so I went and talked to the contractor just to see how silly this is....and I choose the difficult choice for tailors...
The contract was to craft 10 transport flightsuits...now I have no intention of finishing this since everyone is saying that the reward is negligible but I thought I'd see how it worked anyway.
Also I like your idea Arthur...oh maybe they could make one of the items "THE SKIRT" that we all want.

yes arthur great ideas there...maybe the devs will see that, and slap themselves and say "wow why didnt we think of that!!!!"
well one can hope at least. wouldnt mind making a REAL skirt, seems so empty that skirt catagory on my vendor, that and
capes.
oh well at least we did get our necklace fix, i was however in complete content on that good deed!

Good ideas Arthur..........Only newer crafters will like credits and XP. They could keep those rewards for the lower level quests. When we Master, the XP and credits don't mean anything.
For higher levels, these should be made into the equivalent of loot drops. A slightly themed quest with interesting loot would be my idea of fun content.

Hehehe. You should get a special badge for completing that mission:
badge of stupidity... was fleeced out of 10 transport flightsuits by an NPC in Tyrena

They stated that these quests were directly aimed at NON masters, to help them out in a master world. Any credits ( even 200) is worth losing the 5% you would have gotten in practice mode. As soon as I can actually find this NPC ( he sure aint at the art guild in Bestine) I'm going to see what he can do for my non master armorsmith....

OMG you mean that we can make special schematics with things that WE can actually get ourselves? But I want interdependence with a gunbunny, please please! And why can't everyone make this item, like the rugs? Scandal, I tell you!
Seriously, looks good. It would require new schematics, which may not come for a (long) while, but it would be a fun way to implement new stuff. Austin, here I come.

While 200 credits may "help" new players grinding for a profession, it's not even enough to buy the resources to make the items needed for the quest....
