Ok, so I'm starting the delightful tailor grind

I've read the FAQ's, designed my macros, and am merrily grinding away on ribbed shirts like a good lil newbie.

Now since the servers are down today for a few hours, I'm poking my nose into all the different items i'll be able to make once I master. I'm also looking at the resource requirements for each.

I happened to notice that cloaks are available to me at Casual Wear 3,use 110 resources (60 fiberplast and 50 hides), and give 288 tailoring xp according to the data I'm reading. This is significantly more than the amount i'm getting for ribbed shirts and I'd be able to get to that higher xp lvl faster than to the 4th box in Field Wear. To me, this would be a more efficient method of grinding IF there is an item in Casual Wear 4 that would give about the same xp as the cartridge belts (299 xp).

Unfortunately, I dont see anything in Casual Wear 4 that would give me that 299. There is no data shown for the ithorian clothing items listed. Would some kind person please look at those items for me and let me know if any of the ithorian clothing would use a substantial amount of resources. Alternatively, if someone could direct me to a site that would have that information posted, then I can check for myself.

I'd hate to grind up the wrong branch of tailor, then find out there's nothing at that 4th box that will be equivalent to the cartridge belts.

Oh, and a second question. Do factories still give a tiny amount of xp? Because I could go ahead and start them working on all the subcomponents I'll need for future tailoring. Any little boost to xp is always welcome, but I'm not sure if that factory xp has been totally removed or just reduced.

Also, for those of you who have mastered other crafting professions, do you believe tailor takes the longest to grind? or is there another crafting profession that has a lengthier grind?

No xp for factories

Personally, i did grind on Cloaks, but they require a large amount of hide for that grind, and metal and chemicals are much easier to come by because you can passively gather those with harvisters, whereas hide requires active gathering. my other toon was a Ranger at the time, so i had HUGE stacks of hide to work with. (hell, it's been almost a year since i made my crafter, and i still have some of that original hide i gathered way back when (in pre-CU hide containers)

Yeah I was a ranger a few months ago. Lol, my living room floor is carpeted with hundreds of thousands of hides So for me, personally, cloaks will be much more cost effective.

plus, i grinded Tailor right around the time Jump to Lightspeed came out. Jump to Lightspeed brought Tailors the Cloak (Hood Up) version. so i ended up doing alot of my grinding by actually filling orders for cloaks even as a low-level Tailor.

Tailoring is not the lengthiest, I'll tell ya that right now heh.. it's slow, but it's not the hardest. I think AS is the hardest to get going, or maybe even BE is the hardest.. as part of it actively requires you to go in the field.

I did the ribbed shirt/cartridge belt route and it worked for me..tho I admit I was never so sick of ribbed shirts and cartidges belts...but seeing as I had little hide, it was very effective for me. I was literally emptying my harvesters every day and grinding it all and when it was gone, waiting till the next day to grind some more.

If you have a ton of hide, cloaks may be the ticket for you, make sure you get an entertainer buff for the xp boost and go crazy crafting hehe

Ok, I decided to go ahead and use the Cloaks for grinding. With a buff and using a killer macro, I'm getting 20k tailor xp in 10 minutes of crafting. Yeah that seems insanely fast to me. So I'm sure tailor isn't the longest to grind. I'd be interested to see how the cloaks compare to the cartridge belts. I might try them once I get that box, just to see how it compares. I know you get a wee bit more xp but IDK how that would add up over the span of an hour of grinding.

It's so wonderful that you don't need to grind at a crafting station! I'm happily grinding away at the cantina while I talk to friends and do the occasional ID. This is a delightful profession and I'm having such fun with it even before master.

Thanks for your replies and advice

I based my grinding choice onwhat materials i had in abundance, so over time i switched what I ground out. Also cloaks were not an available item when some of the guides were written, but I think cloaks are an excellent grind option if you have the hide.

Anything that involves hide is conspicuously absent from most FAQs. It is the same for chef -- everyone says to grind dough or something until deserts 3, when in fact it is significantly faster going to entrees 1 and grinding synthsteak (that requires 5 units of hide per). I actually did the whole grind on Synthsteak since those were the resources I had plenty of.

I did tailor on ribbed shirts and cartidge belts though without thinking

I can only tell you from my own experiences and opinion, but I did grind out Armorsmith, Architect, Tailor, Dancer, and ID.

From easist to hardest grind....

ID

Architect

Dancer

Tailor

Armorsmith.

ID went very fast for me. It was a quick 2 clicks to ID yourself and get xp. Architecht was definitely the easiest crafting grind if you had the resources. Dancer was easy but time consuming (partly because I dont afk grind). Tailor was a rather long grind but it wasnt difficult. Im actually grinding it again on another server because I cant find any full service stocked vendors and I need Dancers clothing! lol Armorsmith was the most horrible grind I ever did...and I even did it during double xp week. In fact, I have to give up Amorsmith to progress in my Jedi template. I was planning on regrinding AS on my alt but I really dont think Im up to it. Not to mention that AS is soooo resource quality/type specific.Its becoming increasingly difficult to find the resources I need to make good armor these days. So Im going to regrind Dancer which I find you can make just as much money if you are attentive and ATK to give inspiration buffs. :} Not to mention I enjoy the company these days. :}
