Ok so it sounds like I'm kidding but really its true.
I'm going up tailor, not grinding, so usually i sit in the spaceport spamming outfits for 500. Now every single outfit I've made so far was in black/gray. I've been doing this for a few weeks now. When I make my tri-weekly visit to my vendor to restock (lets just say I'm not popular) I realize every time I try to make something non-neutral for an outfit I think it wouldn't work! I look down and I'm wearing white/black camos, black boots, black gloves, white shirt, black jacket, black necklace, and a black hat! My displays consist of black! The only orders Ive been are in BLACK! I look from the computer and the whole room is in shades of gray!
Ok I'll be serious. But really I keep thinking that nothing that isnt mainly neutral wont look right. My camos are screwed up because I make them like black and brown! Its driving me nuts! My brain has gone so mad from black and white its making me think that everything thats colorful looks like crap! Any help to get me out of this stupor?
(I said a neutral color 16 times. I'm really going crazy!)

I find myself sticking to some "core" color combinations when I'm stocking my vendor as well. The first thing I always make is black and white. That's what sells, honestly. But I try to mix it up a bit. The lack of a universal color coding system for tailors puts a crimp sometimes, but I've numbered all my colors (and assigned a name, because I hate labeling clothing on a vendor 15/39) soI can go back and match if someone wants.
A few combinations I like is the bright "Royal Blue" mixed with the bright "Royal Purple". In theory, it doesn't sound like it would work well, but a friend of mine absolutely adores this combination.
Green and Brown. A deep, brighter green mixed with a nice, rich brown. Keeps it from getting too blah with the brighter green.
Black and Bright Red. It looks "evil" and many people seem to like that appearance. I wouldn't wear it, but if it makes people happy.
Green and Gold. Blue and Green. Purple and Green. And amazingly, orange and green.
Those are some of my favorites, at least.

The second time I leveled tailor, I actually went up the color line first or second. Then I had some deep green, hotpink, and navy to play with while I leveled the rest. Interesting factoid: for the first month after release, the colors you got at tailoring 4 were the end of the line (due to a bug). There were no additional colors at master - not orange, red, or purple.

I wouldn't worry too much about it because honestly... black does sell better than color.
Sometimes what I do when making BE clothes, if I get a 4 socket item sometimes I will color it a nice rich color so I can try to entice people to buy colored clothing and I usually offer a matching top/pants to go along with it.

You should just have fun and experiment with what you feel. Yellow is a great color. Purple, blue, green.... whatever the hell you want.

I know how you feel sort of. When I make my clothes to sell, I almost always make them black along with some other color... and yes, sometimes it's black and grey. Why?...Because I need to make sure they sell. The most popular colors are black, white, red, and some blue.
What I recommend doing when you color the camos, make them with a black waistband, and the other color that dull-looking green (in my palette size, it's the second group-colum thingee, if that makes sense... and the row of colors right below that dull-looking green is shades of dull-looking blue)
I usuallymix the black with another color, because black matches with just about everything, if not all.
Also, the decorative vest & two-tone formal skirt was a hot match a while ago. This style kind of died down now, but it still sells some. I usually make them black and green, black and blue, black and green, black and grey, black and red, black and dark red, and black and silver.
Oh, and usually, when I wear my necklaces with my outfit, I make it a completely different color just to make it stand out, lol, and I don't think it does not match... I just think it kind of accentuates (sp?)the outfit.
So yeah... just my contribution to helping your color-phobia, lol.
Hope it helps

On Flurry, where I am, I, like any other tailor, often find myself getting requests for black/white/grey clothing. Working and operating mainly in theed, and with the entertainers is, however, a great blessing to me. A surprising amount of my customers want more than just black white from the very beginning, and many who say they want that are easily persuaded to wear another color. Sometimes, I've even found myself offering people a discount if they where colorful clothing!
Oh, and a few of my favorites:
Purple/Black
Purple/White
Purple/Darker Blue colors
Purple/Lime Green
Purple/Red
Sense a pattern?

I have found that if you offer other colors to customers, they usually take you up on that offer. If they ask for clothing on black, ask them if they want a secondary color, red, green, blue (the safer options lol).
Also, instead of spamming at the starport, try the cantina's. The entertainers are usually more outgoing with their color choices.
If you want your customers to ask for a wider color range, wear some of the colors yourself. I am a very bright purple twi'lek ... my color of choice is yellow. I originally picked the combination as almost a joke, but found that it makes both colors stand out. Even if you feel silly wearing a lime green/royal blue outfit, it shows your customers that you offer more than black.
Now, im not saying that you're not going to get TONS of orders for black clothing, but it might help you get more for brighter/richer clothing - and maybe help you overcome your color phobia

I think the tendency for people to buy lots of black and white stems from the fact that they match everything. Showing people to add color to the black and white seems to work pretty well. Convince them to wear a bright colored shirt under the black jacket...maybe add a colored stripe to their pants. Start out slow and work up to wearing lots of color.

one last note: When i stock my vendors, I try to get one of every color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white, black, pink, brown and grey. If there is a secondary color i will make one in color/black and color/white. such as, if i make a two-time formal skirt, i will make them in red/white, red/black, yellow/white, yellow/black, etc. It seems to me that if the clothing has a fair amount of black in it, the "conservative types" are more likely to buy an item that has color. Granted, the red/black combo sells better than anything else, but nothing i can do about that - at least they have some color on HAHA

That's exactly how I feel when I make my clothes.
