I can't stand all the mouseclicking it's giving my arm problems. Is it at all feasible to use factory exp to gain levels in tailoring?

Well, they lowered the amount of xp you get for making an item in a factroy from 100% to 10%, but they never fixed the bug where you don't get the xp if you're not online AND pretty darn close to said factory.

So the factory is way slower than you are, gives 10% of the xp, costs money and energy to run, and you have to be online and nearby to benefit. All in all, not really worthwhile as an xp gaining method. Great for saving the tedium of producing components though.

I actually gain xp slower with my factory, because I use it to make all my synth cloth these days instead of hand-crafting what I can...

Factories can be a great boon to business (especially when functioning), but don't expect to gain any levels from a factory. If you're really looking to level up, you're going to have to grind.

One thing, though, is that you can be a LONG way from your factory and still gain XP from it. I've been over 5k meters from mine and continued to gain experience (albeit it was 2 XP every 2.5 minutes). Just don't enter a town or a camp and those are considered different "zones." Once you step inside one, you stop earning XP until you leave. That goes for camps that are 100 meters from your factory. If you're in that camp, you're not gaining XP.

why must xp be related to you being on or standing around it..etc at all? That's just stupid. I don't mind getting the 10% thing, or even 5% , but what is the logic behind having to be in a zone or within so many meters? Its dumb. I hope they fix this.

Factories aren't meant to be AFK/offline XP machines. That's why they were set to give 10% XP in Beta. It was only a fluke that they made it into release at full XP.

To be clear: factories serve the sole purpose of making identical components to be used in your tailoring. Originally, there was a profession that would've revolved around running factories, but it was cut. Factories, on the other hand, had to stay in so that we could craft.

Basically, you have three choices:

  1. Tailor on demand, or to fill your vendor. Slow as heck and you'll probably never be 'satisfied', given that you're looking for an easy way to gain XP.

  2. Tailor primarily on demand, and practice in your spare time. Make use of all the tools at your disposal. I rebound as doubleclick the "thumb button" on the right of my mouse (the one for forward when browsing a webpage). Between single-clicking that, and hitting enter to progress through the crafting tool, things are greatly sped up.

  3. Grind. You miss the point of the profession (or radically delay it) if you do this though, as making things for people to wear, rather than as "practice" is kind of the whole purpose for a Tailor's existence. You may want to consider finding another profession.

You'll probably note I'm not a fan of practice, especially as an exclusive method of advancement. I think my point is valid though: if you're only here to advance, then you probably don't really want to be a Tailor. You'd probably be better off becoming a combat class, running missions and buying all those fleshwraps you want. In the end, you'll probably have had more fun shooting stuff than just clicking through a UI to get no item and+200xp towards the 70000xp you need for a level 4 box.

For Heaven's sake people: Have fun.

Actually, I wish they'd make it so that you could earn XP from it while being offline. One of the greatest benefits of a factory is that it can craft while I'm asleep or at work. However, a factory is most useful when I'm online and could be crafting on my own. Hmph.
