Thread: When to start thinking about my own shop?
Im now novice tailor, but Im not grinding but making stuff I actually sell.
The problem is the 25 items in Bazaar aren't near enough so I started thinking about
when I should start my own shop.
How much money should I have before I start? I got Buisness II already so I could
get a vendor in some hours.
If you can sell things on the bazaar on a daily basis, it's time for your own vendor.
Especially if you're constantly selling something for 3,000 cr.

Be aware that the overhead on an artisan level vendor can be crushing. Unless they changed it in the last week (check the merchant board--I haven't looked into it myself) both the coke machine and droid vendors charge a percentage of the value of what's loaded into them. When I loaded up my droid with a bunch of inventory (this was after I made master, admittedly, but still) the little sucker was charging me almost 10k a day in maintenance fees. Make sure you have enough capital on hand to operate it for several days until you can getnovice merchant(that would mean getting to business IV first) so you can junk it at the earliest possible moment and go with a basic NPC vendor (which charges next to nothing). One tip on shop operation that I learned the hard way.
Some of us want to actually have fun along the way to master, and make a living by tailoring and not running missions. Call us crazy, but we do exist!
I opened my shop around Novice Tailor, or I might have had Field Wear II. The box vendor is really expensive and I wound up going to Novice Merchant so I could get an NPC vendor. I guess I just had a few items on the box vendor and got novice merchant fairly quickly. I know I didn't start advertising heavily until I got the NPC merchant up and my store furnished. Definitely get some furniture and plants! I get a lot of complements on my shop.
Finding a good location can be hard - I wound up setting up near some existing business so I would get some foot traffic. I'm also an easy (i.e. few red cons, nice grassy fields, etc) run from Keren. Last week before "the patch" my shop sales had outpaced my bazaar sales, so I took that as a good sign.
Anyhow I recommend setting up a box vendor even if you don't advertise at all. Just put a few items on it and you will get merchant exp pretty quick.

Oops, correction.. I didn't have Field Wear II but only Field Wear I when I opened my shop. I'm kind of working the skill tree horizontally so did all the I', then all the II's, etc.

The main problem of shops is that it's hard to make people know they them. I got my own vendor at the start because I liked the idea, and I sold a few things so far but not so many to be honest (I only got master last night).
Iadvise getting novice merchant as well, just because at some point you will want a NPC vendor anyway and changing vendors is a pain, all the more as it is bugged some (I lost my whole stock when I changed vendors). Then whether you sell a lot or not it won't matter so much because they cost almost nothing (it will prolly get fixed at some point though).
But if you just want to make money, missions is the way to go really. I made 90% of my money doing missions to pay for the material to grind to master (can do missions and grind at the same time, so it's sweet), but I enjoy tailoring and it's why I chose it, not to make big money because of it.
I had a shop up before I even hit Novice lmao. But hey. I'd say definately by the time you get your first tier skills.
Some poeple are mentioning that artisan level vendors cost an arm and leg. I would HIGHLY recommend getting at least the first skill in Merchant because itchanges the vendor costs to about 10 creds a day lol. Don't know why.. but it does.
I have both a shop and I sell a lot of cloths in the local bazaars as well. I find I sell a LOT more cloths then I expected via the bazaar and I always put a little add in the description for my shop
brings in customers looking for something specific or just a larger selection.
