Hi there! Welcome to the tailoring profession!

If you're just starting out and don't have any outside help, putting down the capital for harvesters can be expensive at first. I'd suggest working with personal harvesters until you can move up to medium ones. As far as which ones to buy, you'll need a mix of chemical and mineral harvesters. One or two wind harvesters wouldn't hurt either and should be able to provide all the power you'll need.

Now, collecting the proper resources depends on how you want to go up the profession. If you'd like to grind, most people do ribbed shirts until they can do cartridge belts at field wear IV. This means that you'll want to build up a lot of inert petrochemical and steel. If, on the other hand, you'd like to collect resources for making clothing in general, you'll need lots of fiberplast, inert petrochemical, and metal (in that order). As you work your way up the profession you'll quickly get a feel for what resources you'll need and in what quantities.

First thing I would do is get yourself a wind generator and a wind survey tool. Find a good spot and let it run a couple of days. Then get a personal mineral and personal chemical harvester (or 2), get the power you have collected out of your wind generator, and go put these down on some metal (I usually grab steel, its more universal for most schematics) and fiberplast. Let the fiberplast run till it shifts, then do the same with polymer.

You won't need a factory as soon. Most of the schematics that require factory components don't occur until later in the skill trees.

You might want to check out Pawlin's FAQ over in the architech's forum for more info on harvestors.

Thank you very much for your replies.

It definitely helps a lot. That harvestor link for architects was great. I hadn't been able to find any information on harvestors other than that they were much nicer than hand sampling.

My plan right now is to grind up to Master Tailor, and thenmake a whole bunch of clothes. So, even if I won't need a whole bunch of fiberplast for the grind, I think I'll want it after.

So far I'm really excited and looking forward to making stuff. Now if I just didn't have to work and could stay home all day tailoring...

I just got myself to Novice Tailor last night. Phew. After going up through Domestic Arts, the jump to Novice Tailor was huge. But anyway.

So far, I've just been living off of resources I've scrounged with surveying and sampling. Last night, I actually bought some fiberplast since I didn't want to spend the time hand sampling and didn't have any harvestors yet.

Now that I'm a Novice Tailor though, I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to get some harvestors going. I've read through as much of the information as I could find, but I may have missed some.

Does anyone have any advice on getting set up with harvestors? As I understand it, you need power as well. So, I'll need harvestors for the types of resources I want to gather as well as power to run them. Are there any pages with informatioin on what a good starter set up is? How many harvestors is good for starting out? And, how many power generators?

The last few days, I've been running artisan missions to help generate money. It's going really well so far, but I keep spending the money I make (some for training Novice Tailor, some to get my swoop repaired). I was really anxious to get to Novice Tailor last night, so I bought the fiberplast. Hopefully, I won't have to keep spending credits for resources once I can get some harvestors.

I don't think I'm quite ready for factories yet...but I figure I'll need to start looking for information on getting set up with them fairly soon.

I'm planning to grind it just because I want to get their quickly. My tailor is an alt who I wanted to have tailoring to support my dancer...though I'm really having fun with both of them so I tend to play them both about equally.

So anyways...if anyone has any good advice for a starting out setup for harvestors, I'd appreciate it greatly.
