Something I've seen in almost every other Profession FAQ, but doesn't seem to exist anywhere on the site is a description of what in particular you get for each level of Tailor: Experimentation!!
I'd really love to know what colors I get access to for Experimentation I so I can choose between that or one of the other "treelimbs". Am I just missing a post about this somewhere? Did I just wake up stupid? Or has no one ever posted this anywhere?

Not entirely sure, although from my observations, tailoring experimentation 1 cleared up the colour palette a little, and organised it in tones of colour. It opened up a true black and white, (or extremely close) a good dark magenta/pinky colour, a decent-ish forest green. The 2nd in that branch gives better greens and blues I believe.

If you're working to Master Tailor, I would do that line as soon as possible. (After the Field Wear line if you're grinding, otherwise after you are comfortable with the variety of items you have.) With higher Assembly comes less crit fails on assembly and thus slightly faster XP. (Also more socket chances.)
Your Clothing Customization skill is the number of colors in the main palette. You really don't get the good, bright colors until Master. IIRC, you can use the Color Palette page of Needful Things to see what colors you have access to with how much Customization skill. (Tailoring 4 = 200.)
Experimentation is only currently used in Armor Padding, and works just like experimenting an armor component.

There used to be a really good site that blocked off which colors you get at which level, but I have been unable to locate it - I think it's offline =/

I put one together here, but it only shows the full color palette.

I figure I may as well get xp (& hopefully a few credits!) for clothes I'm making rather than just practicing. 
So, look for my future Tactical Skinsuits on Starsider's Coronet area! They may not be quite as pretty yet, but they'll be available for sale.
