Thread: Robes: The're not just for women!

Maybe I have not looked hard enough (just made Novice Tailor a few days ago), but I have not seen any robes that men can wear. Does anyone else have a problem with this? Who out there decided that robes were only fit for females? One of the reasons I chose to be a tailor is because I aspire to be a politician (stay with me for a sec). In the movies, all politicains wore very nice, distinguished robes. I want to be no different. Walking around town looking like a He-She does not appeal to me either. If there are robes for men out there and I just haven't noticed them, send me a short flame and be done with me. This thread will probably never make the devs cut, but you never know. If you don't say anything, you gain nothing. Anyone else got an opinion on this?

I have several schematics for political-style robes, some of which cannot be worn by females. I think the reason you're not seeing any robes is because no one else wants them. Everyone currently wants dusters and cloaks, and they want everything they buy in black. Either that, or they want armor instead. 95% of the population has no imagination whatsoever when it comes to clothing. As a Tailor, it's a bit disheartening. We end up crafting for the entertainers and no one else.

men get smocks in novice tailor. the first official male robe. i think males can wear some of the female robes tho they are a little feminine.

oh duh there are also other robes around but you have to be at a really high tailoring level. there are robes, double robes and robes of honor ( 3rd tier tomaster tailor?) that both men and women can wear. these ones are pretty unisex and are most distinguishable (genderwise) by the colors. they look really good on the guys

just wait a bit and the robes will be showing in your schematics soon

I guess I was a little downed when I saw that Administrator's Robes were only for females. Just made me a bit sad that such a perfect name for my politicians robes had breast outlines. Very disheartening (and disturbing). Wearing something called a smock(sp) or whatever, just doesnt' have the same ring to it.

What about the Councilman's Robe? Can you wear that one? I also got access to that at Novice Tailor.

As for the Smock, I wouldn't worry about the name too much. Find yourself a tailor to custom make one for you and ask them to put a more interesting name on it. There's no reason it has to be called a "Smock" if it's a crafted item.

i think its by default that most of the clothes are female shaped. at least when males actually wear the item, they dont look like they have breasts like most people did in beta

The previews are all female-shaped, but some of the clothing actually cannot be worn by males. Likewise, some (like the Smock) cannot be worn by females.

Thx for the info, everybody. I guess I just need to pay more attention and stuff. Although, I did not see a Councilman's Robes in Novice Tailor. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough.

You seem to be a bit confused about descriptions and the picture of an item. Administator and councilman robes can be worn by either sex. I wore one in beta and have sold a few to other men out there. The smock can be given any name you so desire. I have sold several of them in white to medics as doctor/medic robes. Unless the description says male or female only (like the smock and frock do) then anyone can wear them. If you notice, most every item you make will have the female version of it in the window. Just look at the schematic for a bone bp, you don't see a male version of it but men do wear them as you well know.

Currently I have administrator robe, councilman's robe and the frock as well as the basic simple robe you get in the dom line. I also sell many clothes in different colors than black. In fact I seldom make anything black since I don't have a pure black, only shades of grey, green and brown. One of my most popular is pink and white with contrasting trim colors. Everytime I put new items up, whether they be high or low end, they sell. I had a full listing on the bazaar the day before yesterday and when I logged in yesterday, I only had 2 low end items left. My biggest problem is keeping up with the demand. Perhaps you are on the wrong planet or wrong server, but the people on Naboo/Kettemoor seem to know how to dress without being in armor 24/7.

Oh, I forgot to mention, some items are only available on your tools when near a crafting station and when using the clothing and armor specialty tool. Packs are that way as well as the robe I believe. Stand next to a public or private clothing crafting station, use your specialty tool and you may be surprised at all the new schematics you will see.

i am quite aware of that ninjafish just saying the majority of whats out there looks female by default even if a mele makes/wear it themselves, gender specific clothing are around such as the formal gowns and the more exotic clothing in master tailor are to females as tusken raider gear are to men
