Thread: New Tailor Item Suggestion: Gift Box?

I was thinking that I'd sure like to present my lady with a gift to warm her heart and fan the flames of desire to this lithe little zabrak that I fancy. However, just trading to her really doesn't work that way and the presentation of a 'gift' is lacking. So here is what I was thinking, what if I had a little container (say 5 items) that looked like a gift-wrapped present? Something simple like light pink wrapping with a blue ribbon...or of course you could use all those marvelous palette colors you all have. So I was thinking it would be great for Tailors to be able to craft this item at maybe Formal Wear 1 (since it only holds 5 items). What do you all think? Can this get added to your wish-list items?

yea thats an awesome idea. Hehe the only other MMORPG I've played that had such a thing was AO. During Christmas you could kill these things called Santa Leets (http://www.ao-basher.com/mem_genbyid.php?id=1590) that dropped presents that contained a couple funny little items that had no real worth. But everyone loved them and cept unopened presents in there banks for months lol. Then of course sold them for thousands of credits to the unlucky few whodidn't get a chance to get a present of there own during x-mas

I hope the devs see this one and put it in Hell even as a nice Artisan level item.. yet another consumable.

Frankly, I would leave this as an Artisan-level item - say Domestic Arts III, much like the Fireworks Package is Engineering III. Of course, Tailoring I - IV and Master Tailor could increase the color selection (or *maybe* the color selection increase for a "gift box"would be better tied to Merchant?)

I only listed it as a Tailor item for 2 reasons:

1- this is the Tailor forum

2- All containers are listed in Tailor, and none are in Artisan. Since this would be a container (I wasn't thinkingconsumable, I'm not sure where that came from), kinda like a Belt Pouch or Sachel, I put it there.

I guess alternately, once opened, the Gift Box could be consumed. The only problem with that is if someone put the wrong gift inside and needed to change it.

Fantastic idea, Rowl!

My two credits - perhaps what the itemcould be is a Gift-Wrapping Kit. We could make the kit, as tailors, in colours we haveavailable to us, like you stated earlier. Then a customer could purchase the kit from us, and wrap the item themselves. Once the gift is opened, whenever that would be, we could see the UXP trickle in from an item we created actually being used up... And if it were a single-use item that disappeared when opened,it seems like it wouldbe easieron the databases.

I just really like your idea, haha, and it got me to thinking. Dangerous, that can be... And PS, Rowlf WAS always my favorite muppet, lol...

Ah see the smartest wookiees are on my server yeah great idea. I'd like to see it be a disposable box though like when you tear open a present and the box and wrapping is in shreds.

How about this modification...?

Gift Wrapping tool, usable only by Tailors, limited use item (like a repair tool).

Small, Medium, and Large Boxes...one time use items that are destroyed upon opening them after being gift wrapped (that part may be too complicated, though). Small holds one item (novice)...Med 5 items(tier1)...Lrg 10 items(tier3).

Any box can be wrapped. Once the wrapped box is opened, it cannot be used to store more items...the itmes from the box go directly into the opener's inventory.

The Gift Wrapping tool colors are based in the palettes available to the Tailor at the time of the wrapping, not at the time of crafting the tool. This is a Novice Schematic.

Thanks for all the feedback...I'm glad to see that one of my ideas has gotten praise from the industry it was designed for!!

Actually, the Small Box could be a DomArts3 (artisan), and Med at N.Tailor, Lrg attier2 (pick one).

The Tool is still a Tailor Only item.

The box could have a radial menu option to 'change contents' additional to 'open' until it is wrapped...then the 'change contents' option goes away, and the box is consumed upon opening.

actually, I LOVE the idea of a gift box, perhaps several types. However, and now know that Im a tailor....id prefer to see it be an artisan item. A) it might be other items that you wish to give, for example, what says romance like a new flamethrower? B) Artisans make so little as it stands, and sicne this can be used generically for any gift, it stands to reason that artisans should make them. it would give them a nicely saleable item to sellto the crafting professions, hopefully cheaply and in bulk (crates). Why cheaply? well, I doubt SEARS will but their gift boxes at 3 times the price of the items in them hehe

I love it! I get so many customers who are buying several outfits for their 'someone special', and who I know would love to present it in some manner other than just trading the bunch to her (or, quite often, him). It would be a great bonus to give something useful to artisans.

If it was a tool, as the suggestion two posts above, there would have to be a way for the buyer to confirm the contents without opening it.

The idea of making it a true "present" where the wrapping disappears upon opening is nice, but might be a lot less feasible to code. What might be a nice happy medium is if it had a reasonably fast decay rate, so you might get three or four uses out of it before it poofed. That would be more like gift boxes in my mother-in-law's closet...
