Thread: Trying on clothes simplified
I can see this being a coding nightmare, for two reasons:
1) You have to make it really secure, so that a seller can't use it to cheat people. It would require additional code to block out the credit box, for example, so that if "Try on" was checked someone couldn't pay for an item. It would also run afoul of the code that prevents you from trading equipped things, since items would have to revert even if they were equipped.
2) In beta, one of the biggest issues was inventory. Stuff disappeared all the time. It's still sometimes an issue now, but nothing like it used to be. If your inventory changed anytime in the last hour or so before you logged off, those changes would disappear if you logged out or lost connection. Then they'd reappear in a day or so. Somewhat like the vendor purchase bug, but happening to *everyone*, *every time*. So code that introduces another rule about what is in your inventory and what disappears from it might be especially problematical.
I saw someone else suggest the Image Design route, where you could create a window for people to preview themselves with the new clothes on. That might be a lot easier to implement, since the code is already more or less in game.
Even better, Client wants shirt A in Color 1. I make him the item and he buys it. I tell him that if does not like the color tell me lighter or darker color 3 or 4 what ever. I make the item in the new color and trade it to client he puts the first one back up for tade.
I can often get the color exact on the second try. The first one I made then goes on my vendor.
Simplified :-)
Using /trade is starting to drive me crazy. Or maybe it already has. Waiting for the person to respond.. having it cancel cause they said something using /say.. or their inventory is full.. or they are out smoking a cigarette... or it's a full moon..Grrrr...
Over the weekend I set up a Special Order Pickup Vendor and started using that as a way to transfer items to the customer. So much easier. I still let people try stuff on, but for the most part it's easier for me to drop the items on the vendor and let them buy the items as I make them.
