Thread: Some thoughts about the future of tailors with the BE tissues
Tell me if what I think sounds too negaitve but...
People currently buy quite a lot of clothes, sure they don't decay but lot of people like changing clothes pretty often. Now, I'm worried for the future. Why would someone who has spent 20k or more on one pair of pants ever want to change it, if it doesn't decay and it has awesome stats?
I'm dreading that after the first rush, once everyone has an outfit full of enhancements they won't buy anything anymore. Am I too pessimistic?
It's a vaild point, and one that also holds for the enhancers that go into socketed items. This isn't too big a deal now since hardly any clothing enhancers seem to be dropping as loot, but it may become a problem in the future.
Since the enhancers aren't removeable from sockets, customers won't want to switch outfits and lose their good bonuses. And since it sounds like BE modded clothing is going to be very expensive, people aren't going to want to spend large amounts of credits on several different outfits.
Just another reason why decay is essential for our profession, and I hope it gets some real attention soon.
Folks -
#1 Money is NOT in short supply
#2 I have faith decay will eventually get in
#3 I don't know bout you but the last month - my sales have dropped off dramatically, this will infuse tailoring for at least another month - maybe two - this gives them a window to get decay in.
#4 No way around it - professions have to either have services, or consumables to sustain over the long haul.
What I've noticed is people having multiple sets of clothing for different occasions. Most of the serious hunters I suppliedback when tape enhancers were dropping regularly(and admittedly I've never had a huge number of those--I mostly supply entertainers) had at least one "hunting suit" that they specifically maxed out the stats on, but then they also bought clothes to run around in, visit the cantina in, etc. That's probably what I'll do myself--have a special suit to hit things with a sword in, but otherwise go with largely unmodified clothing that just suits my clothing whim of the moment.
I really don't think the BE stuff will hurt us. If anything, I see business picking up (which given my limited playtime right now, I have mixed feelings about!).
