Hello all. I'm currently working toward Master Tailor in my Talus shop on the Intrepid server. One of my guildmates and neighbors is a clothing fiend and has literally filled two houses with clothes. She recently directed me to a bag of clothing that she never wears and asked me if I would like to sell it on my vendor.

Is there any problem with this? Most of it was crafted by other Tailors or looted from corpses, so it's not all in the very best condition. Would this be an insult to the original crafters?

Thank you for your responses.

Why can't she just use the bazaar? Certainly she can afford the seller's fee if she has two houses full of clothes.

I'm not a tailor but an avid clothes buyer, and I think it cheapens the tailor to see other clothes on their vendor. Just mho..

I agree. I usually tell well-intentioned "resellers" politely that I'm in the business of making clothes, not selling other peoples', and that I'm not running a consignment shop.

Though that said, before I made Master Tailor, I would hunt for cheap Gunmen's and Spec-Ops Dusters on bazaars (looted or crafted), and put them on my vendor for resale. I was just getting tired of fielding inquiries about dusters and telling people I couldn't make them yet - better to at least have a few samples for sale.

(Of course, by the time I made master, demand for Dusters seemed to have fallen a lot - they're a fairly minor seller for me currently.)

I had one customer try to offer some items on my vendor.... three of which I didn't make. The other item I had made, and I have always sold it for 1500 credits. She offered it on my vendor for 8000! That really irked me more than the reselling other tailor's stuff (which she was offering to me rather cheaply). I wrote her a scathing e-mail that she should not try to make a profit off me by reselling me my OWN clothes. She sent me an e-mail with a blubbering "sry, plz don't be mad at me" which indicated that she was probably 12 years old, and then I felt awful. Ah well.

Another customer asked me to give her 1000 credits while she was standing at my vendor buying my stuff. She says "you'll get it back" - which ofcourse I will when she's going to immediately invest it in my vendor. But that's like asking for free clothes. I hid in my storage locker for a while (tip for tailors, always have a private house to hide in, with a crafting station, even if it's not your own).

In response to the original post... You certainly don't HAVE to resell clothes, and it's most tailors' policy to not do so. However, I don't think other crafters would be insulted by you reselling their stuff. They will probably never even know about it. And, honestly, better that you resell stuff that isn't being used, than if you bought stuff off their vendors and then resold it at a higher price. What you SHOULD do though is make sure that you're not selling far below market, so those tailors don't get tells saying "but your duster was on so-and-so's vendor for X and now you are telling me you sell it for Y?"

I'll resell things from other tailors that I've purchased for myself. It's pretty rare that I do buy from another tailor but occasionally in the past I've seen something I've loved in a great color I couldn't make yet. And I'd rather sell it privately in my shop than on the bazaar.

I've had some guy ask me if I could give him 12k, then put 2 items at 30 millions on offer on my vendor. Yeah right.

I usually have a pretty liberal policy about this stuff (pretty liberal policies about most things actually). Quite a few times I'll be making an outfit for someone and they'll hand me their old clothes. It's generally an inventory space issue and they don't generally ask anything in return. I don't expect it, or request it, or even necessarily appreciate it, but it's just them not wanting to waste useful items.

I take em, and if I think they'll sell I'll put them on my vendor, if not I destroy them *shrug* nobiggie. I accept any and all returns, no questions asked. If I made it, I'll buy it back at full price (nobody has ever asked me to do this like weeks later though, doubt I would do it, but who knows I'm such a softie). I think I even gave someone a bit of "clothing credit" once when they gave me their old duds, but that was because their new outfit cost quite a bit more, not because I wanted their discards.

I don't think it's bad to sell other ppl's clothing. I have several ppl who come to my shops and are resellers on another planet and I think it's ok just as long as that is the type of shop you want. The crappy mob dropped items that are always horrid colors are another story but like I said before, if that is the type of shop you want to run that is fine.

I always thought it would be cool to run aclothing consignmentshop (ppl sell to your vendorfor 1 credit and you split the profits if it sells..and/or find cheap clothes on the bazaar and do a thrift store), but I have too much on my plate atm to consider doing it.

That's good Nofi, cause I've certainly resold plenty of yours, lol.

hey, if I price my item and someone buys it and sells it for more, more power to them. I am getting my money and they are getting money =)
