Thread: Tailoring faqs?
I am trying to put together a tailoring faq for my guild website and hitting a major writer's block. I haven't been able to find a faq anywhere, you know questions people ask you about tailoring, that I could "borrow" from or use as a starting off point.
So I am bringing my question to all you tailors, what questions are you asked more often then not and (most importantly)how do you answer them?

What are you looking for? FAQs from customers or from other tailors? Assuming you're asking for FAQs from customers, here are a few:
Q: Can tailors make skill enhancers?
A: No, those are loot items. However, we can make some bio-engineered clothing if we can get the tissues from a BE.
Q: What stats do the BE tissues have?
A: Please refer to swgbio.com; this site has all of that information for you.
Q: Why can't you make a duster in blue/red/purple/etc?
A: Devs hate tailors.
Q: I kinda sorta know what I want, but I don't know what it's called. Can you make it?
A: Please refer to Nivea's site. There are photos of everything there. http://www.thehonorempire.org/swg/nivea/index.shtml
I'm assuming you don't want the really stupid questions...
Nalinya,
Thanks for the great start, and to answer your question (I should have been more specific), questions from customers.
As for the dumb questions, why not, I have a small list of really stupid questions, that just make me kinda shake my head and stare at the screen with a dumbfounded expression, but I dutifully jot them down anyway.
Currently I am working on the Tissue enhancements vs sockets area.
Thanks again, for the start ![]()

After about 7 version of the 1st edition, I finally compiled and put together a horribly long and tediously boring Faq. If you are a tailor and wish to use any of this, feel free, all I ask is that you give me recognition as the author.
This Faq is geared towards my PA, so there are some things that are guild specific in here. I went through with the inte
After fighting and struggling with the posting restrictions... I decided just to forgo all the formatting I had done, this looks far uglier than it should. If you would like a copy of this in word format, email me at [email protected]. Thanks.
Enhanced Clothing
Currently there are eight (8) bio-engineered tissues that can be added to synthetic cloths and reinforced fiber panels. Each tissue works in a specific cloth, which restricts what clothing can be enhanced with certain skills if it can at all.
Synthetic Cloths
Entertainer Enhancements: These tissues will add a bonus to both the dancing skill and the musician skill. It’s pretty straight forward. I have heard a few Cantina entertainers say, "Why would I want to speed up the process?" but then I have also heard combat entertainers jump on these. If it gets the combatants out into the field faster, then grab it. This enhancement can be thrown into a lot of different types of clothing, including some field wear.
Medic Enhancements: These tissues add to the injury and wound treatment skill. Some of the clothing made pre-patch will show a medicine use skill, but since this skill has been removed from the game it should be disregarded. It never worked prior to the patch and will not work currently. (Check out the bio-engineer profession board at www.starwarsgalaxies.com <http://www.starwarsgalaxies.com> to learn why medicine use was removed.) You need to have at least Novice Medic in order for this enhancement to help you (remember, Medicine Use isn’t active).
Creature Handler Enhancements: Please do not request this enhancement, it requires milk and exists in very small quantities. During beta, there was a class of farmers, this profession could keep herds of animals and one of the items they produced was milk. The schematic is still in the game for bio-engineers, but as of yet there is no source of milk. From what I understand it helps with the Creature Taming skill and Training, although I am not 100% certain about this.
Reinforced Fiber Panels
Bleeding Defense: This enhancement adds to your bleeding defense ability, if an opponent uses bleeding shot this skill should slow the bleeding down, giving you enough time, hopefully, to either heal, or prevent you from bleeding to death when incapacitated. I recently sold a few items to someone with Bleeding Defense on them, he has been ecstatic with the results and has seen results with even the most minor of enhancements. If you are heavily involved in PvP this enhancement is imperative.
Brawler Enhancements: Confidence cloth adds to the intimidate and warcry skills. If you use any of these abilities this enhancement can’t hurt. This is a great to throw on a minor item like a formfitting undershirt, especially considering that it can be worn under armor.
Melee Resist: Adds to both melee resists and stun resists. This enhancement is good for combat types, especially against Teras Kasi. Again, if you are involved in PvP, you’ll want to have this enhancement on an item.
Scout Enhancements: This adds to both Camo and the Mask Scent skill. We have tried to test this enhancement, but so far we haven’t really seen any big improvements to this skill. Essentially we have no proof either way. At this point I would recommend that you don’t request this enhancement.
Sniper Enhancements: Adds to the cover skill. Again a good PvP enhancement. I haven’t fully tested this enhancement out yet, and haven’t heard of anyone else who has, so I am not fully willing to endorse this just yet.
Can You Enhance the Clothing that I All Ready Have? The plain and simple truth is no. Sorry, I can’t do it. Bio-Enhanced clothing is made as tailors weave the enhancements into the cloth that is in turn used in the actual fabrication of the clothing. If you want enhanced clothing, it has to be made for you from scratch. The only way to enhance existing clothing is to use sockets and skill tapes. (Please see the Socket section to see how they work.)
How it works
Max Skill Enhancement: You can only add up to 25 points in each skill with enhanced clothing. This means that you can have either one item with 25 skill points in any one skill or a combination of garments that add up to 25. If the skill enhancements on your clothes equal more than 25, the enhancements over 25 will not count. Pre-patch enhanced clothing had the benefit of enhancements stacking. This meant that lower ranking bio-engineers could help create tissues that could eventually equal the enhancements of tissues from Master Bio-Engineers. There are several items on my vendor made pre-patch that have bonuses of +5 to +9 of a skill (this is especially true of enhancements used in synthetic cloths), but to reach those bonuses now, a tailor really must have access to a master bio-engineer. Typical enhancements found on Bio-Accent clothing will have bonuses in the +3 to +4 range unless specially ordered.
Single Cloths vs. Identical Cloths: Now, some garments require identical cloths and these enhancements will not stack. This means that I have to use four (4) identical synthetic cloths for a Gunman’s Duster, but the garment will only have a bonus as if it used one cloth. The prices on these garments reflects the number of bio-enhanced cloths used, not the number of the skill shown.
When Garments use Both Types of Cloths: There are some articles of clothing that use both synthetic cloths and reinforced panels and I am able to combine enhancements on them. (The general rule of thumb is that combat enhancements can be added to Class specific enhancements. This is not an exact rule, just a generalization that may help you understand enhanced clothing, if you order through www.swgbio.com <http://www.swgbio.com> the system is set up so that it will show you exactly what kinds of enhancements can be added to your clothing choice.) There is a limit to how many different enhancements a garment can hold, and that is three (3).
Socket To Me!
I'm sure that all of you might have noticed that some of your clothing has something called sockets, anywhere from zero to four. I have been getting a lot of questions about sockets and skill tapes so let me say this first and foremost, Tailors do not make Skill Tapes for sockets.
What are those sockets for anyway? Are you supposed to plug a light into your luxurious gown? The simple answer is no, but you are supposed to put something in them. However, and herein lies the dilemma we poor Tailors face, the power-ups or gems or skill tapes that are used in sockets are not created by us. That's right folks, you heard it here first, we tailors have absolutely nothing to do with the thingamajigs that go in sockets, why we can't even control the number of sockets that show up on an item.
But where do you get those thingamajigs? Well, they drop, off of humanoid NPC's.
Bio-engineers and Tailors have nothing to do with skill tapes, power ups, gems, thingamajigs, or whatever else you want to call 'em. In fact, I would be ecstatic if I could even find the time to hunt, much less loot one of them to drop them onto some clothes, but there are so many different types out there that I couldn’t even begin to read my customers’ minds. Once you use a socket it's gone, you can't take the things out. So, if you do happen across one, please be very careful that you are certain you want to drop it into an item because you can't take it back.
You might be saying, well that's all fine and dandy, A-Ti, But how do I go about getting those sockets filled? You drag the thingamajig over to the item you want to enhance and drop the thingamajig on it. Assuming the item has sockets, you should be all set to go. You don't need a tailor or bio-engineer to help you with that.
I want an item with X number of sockets. Sorry, they are gifts from god, I don’t control their number, for the most part most of my clothes have 3 to 4 sockets at a minimum. I’ve included a list of known items that are bugged and unable to be made with sockets, so please don’t ask me if I can make an item with sockets, chances are I can, but there is also a small chance that the item will fall into the category of bugged items.
High Quality Boots
Doctor's Dress
Light Bustier
Traders Flight Suit
Tech Pack
I have some of those thingamajigs that I don’t want to use, will you buy them from me? At this time I am not interested in purchasing skill tapes. I have a hard enough time when it comes to enhancements that adding power-ups would just make it even more confusing. There are Tailors and players out there who actively seek out these skill tapes, I just don’t know which ones. You can try posting on either the server message board or the tailor board at www.starwarsgalaxies.com to see if you can find someone who is interested or you can offer them up on the bazaar. You may also be able to offer the items to the PA, or the one of the AcroCorp Malls.
Regular Clothing So what about regular clothing? I mean that is what Tailors are supposed to be good at, making clothes and all, but where does it fit into the scheme of things?
Armor and Clothing: I am still working out a complete list of items that can be worn with armor (as a side note, I would love to hear from anyone who is willing to test this out with me), but suffice it to say any of the undershirts will fit under armor. I know that smocks can be worn with chest and arm armor I believe, not sure about leggings though.
Colors: Clothing can be designed so many different ways and be individualized with colors. We can create a unique look for our customers by playing around with shades and what not. Black seems to be the age-old favorite, but there are some items that don’t really have a true black color. Before you complain about a color selection make sure that you have not altered the gamma correction in any way. It will have a direct effect on how colors appear to you. Master Tailors have 255 colors to choose from for several items, but there are also other items that have special palettes. There are Wookiee, metal, and leather palettes, which have far fewer colors to choose from. For a better idea of colors available for different clothing visit www.swgbio.com. Each item there is tied directly to its correct palette. (In case you haven’t figured it out, it’s a **edit** good website, one I use all of the time.)
Current Tailor Bugs Taken from the Official Tailoring Message Board.
Necklaces only are visible while either dropped on the ground or worn. This makes it impossible to craft or choose a style while within the game
Clothing Not Equipping with Backpacks. Certain articles of clothing other than bandolier will not equip with a Backpack on. While this may be a feature it is embarrassing to be reduced to your underwear trying this on for the first time and you pack won't unequip. This includes:
Grand Healers Robe
Grand Ball Gown
Luxurious Gown
Bandoliers
Clothing Color Pallet Displaying White as only option for color 1 or 2 depending. This Includes:
Fighter Flight Suit
Heavy Flight Suit
Trader Flight Suit
Transport Flight Suit
Luxurious Gown
Pleated Dress
Light Bustier
Ammo Bandolier
Mercenary Bandolier
Multipocket Bandolier
Certain Items are erroneously placed on the sort, lumped into a 'miscellaneous’ category instead of having their own. This includes:
Long Gloves of all Types should be under 'handwear'
Skirts of all Types should have a 'skirt' category
Gunman's Duster is not a Robe
Smocks are Not a Dress
Exotic Leotard is Not a Dress
Graphical Glitches. These items are glitches visual appearance in some way.
Immense Gemstone Necklace + Exotic Leotard / Flesh Wrap = Missing Chest area.
Low Cut Top has a dent in left side of exposed torso area.
Lekku Ys'rak and Twi'lek Noble's Crest display a white scalp patch on Males.
The derriere Shows through when wearing pullovers and very apparent and embarrassing when bending over in a grand healers robe!
Back of Decorative Dress shows legs when running around.
Legs poke through the Two-Tone Formal Skirt, both when running and when sitting (with legs crossed).
Silver Pendant does not layer correctly with luxurious gown, neck scarf hides it.
Backpacks to not layer correctly with cloaks, causing clipping to occur.
Bikinis leggings worn by men let the skin appear on the thigh and legs when they move.
Rebel Marine Backpack does not show up when wearing with Gunman's Duster.
Necklaces for the most part do not fit well around the neck and often float.
Belts and Bandoliers in general do not fit correctly around the waist, usually looking very bulky or floating inches away from the waist. They also expand to wear over the jacket where they should wear under the jacket or robe or fit snug instead of bulky.
Bodysuits, Dresses Jackets, and Long gloves. Body suits currently can only be coupled with vests. Jackets should be wearable over body suits. Long gloves should be wearable over jackets. Jackets should be wearable over Dresses.
Color Palette Misappropriation. Certain items seem to have the wrong color pallet assigned to them.
Exotic Leotard: Requires no hide yet uses the hide color-range. Should be full spectrum.
Sigled Waist Wrap: The Leather flap has the master color range and the skirt exterior does not. These two should swap
Item Decay On the Test Server, there is something called Item Decay in being tested out. It may be tweaked before it is published to the live servers, so this is really just to give you a small idea of what you might be able to expect. Nothing is set in stone, this is strictly from what I have heard about from other tailors on TC. I am planning on adding to this section, once decay goes live. No need to get anyone's panties in a twist.
How to Order If you are interested in ordering clothes, please visit www.swgbio.com. You can order directly from the website and once you click on the "checkout" button you only need to add [email protected] to the email field. I will receive the order and then verify with you in game. Once the items are crafted, I will confirm the price. Once we agree on the price, and the clothing is crafted, I will set up a time when you can pick up the items. Please do not send me a tell or email in game, I will just ask you to visit the website and order there. The ordering system helps with my organization, and helps you out with choosing colors and clothes. Before I decided to implement this policy, I tested it out on some of my regular customers and everyone was happy with the results. They said it was easy to use and liked its format. I didn’t just arbitrarily decide to use this system, it came from a lot of thought and conversation. But if customers who are paying full price like it and don’t mind using it, I hope that fellow AC members will not mind either.
Now, occasionally I will be in a generous mood, this usually happens after I fill a large order and have a large number of credits in the bank from them. Just because I will throw a freebie to someone doesn’t mean I will always do so. If you received an item at no charge, don’t expect me to do so for a second, third, fourth of fifth item.
Can you Make Me this? Please, please check out the website www.swgbio.com <http://www.swgbio.com>. It can answer all of your questions and will show you both the colors and enhancements I can add to the garment.
