Well, to answer your question, all four are needed actually. Quality does not matter for tailor. Specific hides do for certain schematics, for example, High Quality Boots require Tatooine Wooley Hide, while Thermal Boots require Naboo Scaley Hide.

A couple other schematics require any type of Bristly Hide, and some require any kind of Wooley Hide. Leather Hide can be used in any schematic that does not require a specific type of hide. Hope that helps you out.

What to send groups to hunt (if you have the luck to have huge numbers of people to hunt for you).

  • Leathery: Enraged Rancors, Dathomir. Around 160 hide per harvest, 36k payout.

  • Wooly: Mantigrue Stalkers, Endor. Around 90 Hide per harvest, 23k payout.

  • Bristley: (still working on that).

The two above missions were done by me (novice scout) and a friend (harvesting 4) with buffs, ubese armor, and master elite profs (both master sword). We used his ATST to be able to access these level of missions. In 3 hours of buffs, we gained around 27k of wooly hide, and I don't remember the exact numbers for the leathery, but it was insane. All I can say is... a stack of 27k wooly will last a loooong time, all for 3 hours of work. I highly recommend sending elite hunters to these places if they're bored.

Hide quality doesn't make any difference to tailors. I never pay over 2CPU for hides. The ONLY time I might need quality hides are for wookie padded armour segmentsbut I VERY rarelymake those (they are the ONLY tailor item that relies on the hides stats and even then very little) If you want to make money out of hides Armoursmiths need good quality hides as it matters to them.

Man oh man NJ, i would literally kill someone for 27k of wooley hide! I'm down to my last 38 units now! Guess that means I will have to make some new outfits for my guildie hunters to intice them to head out to Endor for me! Thanks for the tip on that one!

From a hunter's prespective, it's really not worthwhile hunting with the objective being to get hide for tailors. There is no hide that a tailor would pay 10cpu for in general, so you're better off hunting for almost anything else. However, low quality hide trumps low quality meat or low quality bone, because at least there is a low-paying market for it.

I have a character who hunts for profit and the thought process goes something like this:

is there a spawn that is highly desired by doctors or armorsmiths? If so, immediately jump on the next ship and head out and kill things that have avian meat or super duper hide.

If not, then hunt wherever you fancy. If the meat is very high quality, harvest that. If not, check the bone. If they are both crappy, then harvest the darn hide *sigh* and chuck it on the bazar for 5cpu or less (maybe slightly more for wooly).

My PRC is pretty much communist - whatever's mine is yours, and whatever's yours is mine. As a result, I am the proud owner of about 30k scaley hide, and about 50k wooly hide. I love my friends.

Actually, I wound up getting more wooly in shorter time with cowardly gurrecks. Of course, I only had novice pistoleer and was soloing. Cowardly missions go down easily, you don't even need buffs ( and anyone can pull them outta the terminal, they're 6k missions). Decent armor, a few stims, and they drop ALOT of hides with veghash. Veghash on nearly all servers boosts you to master scout harvesting ability ( around 30 to 40 hides per gurreck). The harvesting droids plus veghash gives you MASTER RANGER harvesting ability ( 40 to 50 hides per gurreck). ( Yeah, I have a master ranger alt, and you won't believe the screaming over this one!!) My ranger has used a droid, but for the tiny boost it gives rangers, it's too much a pain in the, uhm, foot. However, for a novice scout, it's a huge boon.

Veghash boosts you to +40-45 creature harvesting, and the droid adds an avg of +100 above that....

The droid works? I had that ridiculous thing out to test it out. The first lair we hit, a mob started after the droid (which I don't believe was grouped with us) - at which point the droid sped off at the speed of light (faster than any vehicle I've seen) like a big fat sissy - leaving me to harvest on my lonesome while the droid casually made his way back. The droid is in timeout thinking what he did wrong.

It was Mantigrue Screechers and I was using pikes (0-3-0-3 at the time.) Oh, and we got about 30K leathery from the Enraged Rancors in the 3 hours we were out there.

Edit:

  • Tatooine Wooly: Bantha, Tatooine (I think Bull Bantha are the highest payout missions, but I forget offhand)

  • Naboo Scaley: Spineflaps, Naboo

  • Bristley: Handak, Endor (11-12K payout, if I remember correctly)

Oh, and one last thing: Mantigrue Screechers are great for Wooly, but they disease. I mean, really disease. Not like Diseased Nuna or Diseased Vrelt 1 wound per tick disease, like 250 wound per tick holy crap I'm 100% blackbarred disease. So unless your hunters include a doctor, or they all have TKA Meditation 4, you'll want to avoid them.

Yeah, sadly tailors arenot a scout's first market, if they are looking to make a lot of money on the sale. There's just no reason for us to pay top dollar for the best stat hides. And if an armorsmith needs some padded segments for wookiee armor, I usually ask him to provide the high grade hides required. I certainly cannot afford to buy those hides in the amounts needed. One AS wanted a schematic for a full 1000. It nearly killed him with a week of hard hunting to get enough hides for that.

But nearly every day I log in and have stacks of hides offered on my vendor. Anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand, of all varieties of hides. The guild scouts know I will pay 2-5 cpu if they deliver. Especially for larger stacks so I can keep my storage inventory at a minimum. If I happen to run low on Naboo scaley or Tatooine wooly, I just ask in guild chat if anyone's hunting today, to please pick me up a few k. Within hours I have a delivery. I love my guild.

Oh. And bones. Never need very much of that. And again, quality doesn't matter. Only need it for a few Wookiee items and Twi'lek Bone crests, and none of those sell like hotcakes. A stack of 1000 will last a long time.
