Thread: Hoping for some suggestions...

In preparation for the big nerf, I bought a large house, moved everything last night from the small (oh boy was that fun!!) and am waiting for the dust to settle so I can get back to some sanity. My problem is this: I "bought" two levels of merchant so I can add two more vendors but I'm stuck on how to split everything. I currently have two vendors, one is named just "clothing" the other is named "packs-belts-bands-jewelry"

The second vendor is fine, he's under the limit, it's the clothing vendor that needs to be further split among the two more vendors. Any idea how to split up that inventory in such a way that it won't be confusing to the customer? I'd really appreciate suggestions, the move made me brain dead.

I honestly don't think they will implement this nerf. They have over 10 pages of complaints and unhappy merchants/tailors/weaponsmiths/etc.already.I wouldn'tget too upset about it yet.

From the sounds of it (one of TH's replies to the topic) it is metnioned that you will get the ability to raise the vendor cap as you get more levels in merchant.

Well, what I'm planning on doing is seperating my main clothing vendor into unisex and womens wear. The unisex vendor will have all clothing that can be worn by both sexes. It will have items some consider more feminine as well, like some skirts in nice manly colors, because a lot of the guys like to use some of those to make a robe-type look. The main color schemes will be neutrals and regular colors (blue, green, red, etc), the kinds of things that both men and women like to wear.

The women's vendor will have anything that's female only (sports wraps, dresses, bustiers, etc.) as well as other clothes in more traditionally feminine colors. This vendor will stock female only items in a full range of colors, but have mostly pastels on the things like skirts and unisex tops.

I wish there was a merchant feature that would let us enter a description for each of our vendors that the customer could see by either examining them or hitting a button on the vendor screen. I've been creating items labeled "About This Vendor" in each of mine, but that's hardly an ideal solution.

This is my current plan. I'm not exactly happy with it since it means that most female characters will have to check two vendors in order to get all their options. But since I'm planning on using a merchant tent, I don't want to wind up with more than three vendors in it (since too many vendors in a little merchant tent looks silly). I also want to have the rest of my vendor slots open to use in my other businesses.

So I couldn't think of any other way to seperate my current vendor setup in a way that only uses one extra vendor. Of course this means I'll have to get rid of my "cheap, ugly clothes" vendor, but that one didn't have great sales and was more just for fun anyway...

If you carefully read thunderheart's initial post it is stated quite clearly that they are looking for feedback about the bazaar cap, and that the vendor cap has already been decided and is not open for debate, the only thing not positively decided yet was the number

Quote: (I added the underline of the key words) "An item limit is going to be placed on vendors and that limit is intended to be placed on 150".

Later (on page 68 to be exact) Thunderheart posted again : "You may have missed it, but it's looking like there will be an incremental cap based on the merchant skill."

My understand is that this nerf WILL be implemented, the only thing in question is how/when. The decision was made before that post ever was put up if you read the original post again. The only thing open for debate was the bazaar cap, and how the vendor cap would be implemented/what the final number would be.

You will also note that the poll the devs put up ONLY referenced the bazaar cap issue, not the vendor cap. They never asked what we thought of the idea, and while they are well aware after the huge response how the players feel about it, there is no sign that they are going to back out of the idea.

History, within this game and others, has shown that once the devs make up their minds to something it will happen, irregardless of how the players feel. Don't get me wrong, this isn't about knocking the devs. I would not want to walk a mile in their shoes and I'm sure that the decision was not easy for them KNOWING a lot of people wouldn't like it, not do I mean to imply they don't give a sh*t what we think. It's not that simple.

However I don't agree with the "don't worry it won't happen" school of thought, I'd prefer to prepare now for what I feel is indeed going to happen. If it does not go through, or is somehow changed to have less of an impact, due to the number of people unhappy about it, then great, I'm glad.

With that said, this thread kinda got hijacked, as much by my own fault as anyone else's but i'd like to thank donnah for actually answering my question.... it gave me a couple ideas.

Exactly Tsuya. There will be a cap, but it is possible it will be higher than 150. I don't know why my post upset you so, because it wasn't meant to be upsetting. Anyway, sorry about that.

I've kind of been planning on splitting up my clothing vendors between the tracks. So one for Formal, one for Casual, one for Field, one for Novice/Artisan, and one for Wookiees…but maybe that's overkill.

I have 3 so far - 1 for accessories, shoes, packs, and hats, 1 for formal /slinky wear and 1 for field and casual wear.

The reason I don't split them up by the lines is that to a customer it's not apparent which is in which line. They think bustiers are formal. They think lined shorts are casual.

So I just split everything up pretty intuitively - asking myself - would I wear this to kill beasties or to a party? That seemed to work. If I have to split further I'll probably split up these categories by tops/bottoms, or put dresses and other one-piece items on a separate vendor.

Hmm. I like that tops/bottoms idea. It's clean and simple. Which helps the customer, which helps us.

At master merchant w/6 vendors: Tops, Bottoms, Robes & Suits, Accessories, Wookiees -- leaving one vendor to spare for _____?

3 vendors: Tops & Bottoms, Robes & Suits, Wookiees & Accessories.

2 vendors: Tops & Bottoms, Robes & Suits & Wookiees & Accessories.

Heh, would be fun to see how creative one could get in naming them yet saying what can be found on them.

The reason I ended up deciding against tops/bottoms is that people really are too stupid to flip to the next page so I was hoping to break up my shirts and pants into managable (under 100) chunks.

Customer: u their?

Me: apparently (I'm really snotty lately)

Customer: i need bikini in red (actually probably a revealing top, but reading the item name is too much)

Me: there are 2 on the vendor

Customer: i dont see ne (ok - why on earth would anyone say "ne" - "any" is one frickin letter longer!!!!)

Me: are you looking under "shirts" in the "clothing" category?

Customer: o [long pause] followed by a) found it kkthx or b) i dont see ne

Me: did you flip to the next page

Customer: [Either long pause or a question which forces me to explain the "next page" concept in excruciating detail.]

Customer: ohhhhh their it is.

Lmao N'Jessi...been there done that.

Thanks for all the suggestions, for right now I ended up going with a Packs-Belts-Bands-Jewelry, Wookie Gear and misc (non-tailor junk), and Clothes. To further split the clothes up I think maybe I'll go with an "Outerwear" vendor-jackets, boots, gloves and possibly vests. Not sure yet if that will work and I also really like the tops/bottoms idea. Maybe I'll add two more.

Oh and Eir, I really wasn't upset with you, I just wanted to clarify since I think alot of people misunderstood Thunderheart's post. I was just as responsible for the thread going off topic
