I've always carried synth and reinforced cloth by the crate - 3k for synth, 4k for reinforced. You can sometimes run across folks selling cheaper - but given the convience of factory cloth, even if you are just using singles - well worth it.

Don't get into the lowballing game. For the time it takes to make the amount of crates that armorsmiths use, 3k, 4k, are perfect. Think of the returns on the final product that they will make if they make a suit of composite armor. Anyone who tells you that it's too expensive either doesn't know the properties of supply and demand, or is just broke. Holo-grinders often tell me this too. /bah go run missions.
