Thread: Noob tailor question(about sockets)
my roomy has been using my account on differnt servers than what I play on, and he was telling me earlier that tailors can make clothes with sockets that you put skill tapes(skill enhancers? forgot what he said specificaly) that add bonus' to your skills, so I started training up the artisan tree for tailor and I'm curious exactly how far i'll have to go up(and what I'll have to use) to get that high?
I'm a tailor with Tailoring 1, so my clothing assembly is at 30. So far, I've been able to get sockets on almost anything that has a complexity of 14 or less.
So, the potential rule of thumb is that the complexity is either 15 less than your skill bonus, or one-half the skill bonus. When I eventually get the exp. for tailoring 2, I'll be able to test further and give a more accurate estimate. (As a side note, one thing I have /not/ checked, is whether sockets fall along skill level lines. i.e., when you get Dom. 4, the Dom. 1 line can be socketed; Novice Tailor allows Dom. 2, etc.)
I'm more inclined to a mathematical, rather than a stepping stone, solution as this allows for the random roll present in clothing assembly to determine if the crafting was a success.

Some monsters drop stat boosting items as loot ... like Range Defense +10 or Pistol +15 or such.
These can then be dragged and dropped into the sockets of the clothing item for a boost to your characters stats whenever he wears that item.
So socketes don't directly boost stats ... they merely provide the slot to insert the stat boost items as you find them.
Does anyone know if there a way to tell before you name the item how many sockets it will have...?
