Thread: Just wondering.. do you Tailors make a good profit?
If you have good business sense, you can make money as a Tailor. Just gotta use that brain of yours and get creative. I'm nowhere near as rich as the weaponsmiths on our server butI do well for myself.
The big question is: Are you having fun and able to meet your expenses? Frankly, I never really cared about my bank balance or credits earned per day, so long as I could pay for my house, harvestors and, at need, training. But I have a lot of *fun* in my chosen profession... (Ok, chosen is a strong word. I kinda just stumbled into it, but have never regretted it <g>
.
If you have a good, loyal customer base, you will make a fair amount of money. Not nearly as much as the combat types or Smiths, but you won't go hungry either. If you want to get rich, go shoot stuff... <g>
"The big question is: Are you having fun and able to meet your expenses?"
No the real question is: Are you having fun and able to meet your current, and more importantly, future and unknown expenses even when your volume of sales drops off?
If you're only making enough to "get by" like some people seem to think is all you should do for the greater good of the public, then you'll be severely screwed when there's another huge resource shift and you need to move all your harvesters, or when you want to upgrade from small to mediums, or when they Devs destroy your house limits and you need to upgrade your small house to a large house just to hold crap, or when vehicles are added and you can't afford them since you were "only having fun".
Making profit is a pure tailor's way of running missions. We *should* be making profit if we expect to continue. If it's fun too, all the better. ![]()
Those crates of factory synth cloth since I don't feel like maintaining my own factory or collecting the materials for it get fairly expensive, but with Casual Wear IV, Field Wear III, and Tailoring II I generally keep a bank balance between 80k and 100k creds despite spending money on everything and anything I want or need. That being said, before I got to Casual III (just got field III so haven't made any money off it yet) I was just barely able to keep above water with paying for training and keeping my harvesters and shop running. It's tough at first and quickly takes off once you get to a III or IV in any branch.
Since hitting Master 9 days ago, I make about 70-80k per day on top of my expenses. I could make much more than that if I got into the resource selling business, as I've ammassed 90K steel, 90K poly, 40k Fiberplast, 24k crystal Gemstone, and about 35k Iron on Starsider.
My maintence per day is about 25k $$$, and 12K Power (4 heavy harvesters and a Fusion, + 7 lots I'm still renting with small harvesters till the resource shift) Each day those harvesters bring in 18k Steel, 16k Poly, 16k Fiberplast, 7k Iron & 14500 power.
My prices are approximately 65-100% of my competion, depending on the item. (5710 for a robe of honor, 3k for a patterened slip dress, 4650 for flightsuits, 3k for dusters, 2400 for Wookie smocks and cloaks.)
My expenses have included things I really didn't need... I bought 157k Iron for 320,000 credits so I could exchange that for some heavy harvesters and build a credit with my Architect. I refuse to leave a Medical center or Cantina without contributing 5k to the performers / med staff. (Only ones that are talking / NOT AFK.) I've been giving 3k of each Steel, Fiberplast, & Poly to any starting Tailor I come accross, along with donations of up to 10k and 3-5 small harvesters being as I've still got Master Artisan just lying around. I've also been helping the people who materialize outside the starport in their "Just arrived" attire. Give them clothes to get them out of that Newbie Scout look.
Am I bragging? No. You asked if we make money, and the answer is yes! I believe Icould make a heck of alot more. I give back to those around me, and am really only saving up to buy a Starship. If better weapons were available on Starsider, I'd probably be buying them in decent quanities as gifts for my in game friends. If your shop (Or shops in my case) are advertised on the map, you can guarentee sales. Someone yesterday bought every Tactical skinsuit I had on both my vendors! The prices I charge, they'll probably resell at a profit, and I'm ok with that. If I can make 32k off 8 items, and they can make more, then this economy is truely working.
Ask around on Tatooine. I don't thinkyou'll find many (If any) complaints about my behavior or services. If you're willing to give people what they want, they'll always be back for more.

I am working hard to make some money.. I make enough to keep my harvesors going, and keep 10-30K in teh bank dpeending on teh day.. But it woudl be ncie to get to the point where I can store maintenace in my harvestors or afford to upgrade them to larger ones.. Maybe I am doing something wrong.. I ahve cahrged 3K for aset of cloths before.. nothng special just coat, shirt pants etc.. I cahrge 3K for Spec Ops dusters.. whcih I cant make black for some reason. I ahve factory crates but ahve yet to sale any.. its just being used for me and sitting there as an expense...
I talk to people, I give good Customer Service. I sale stuff onte h bazar. I jsut not setp my own vendor.. is that the secret having vendors? I ahve even advertised a little here and there. any hints appreciated.. just want to e able to relax a little isntead of fighting teh SWG economy every day as I try to advance forward.
