Cheapskates who don't appreciate value are inevitable. Don't lower your price for those bozos, just tell them your price and stick to it. If they don't like it they can shop on the bazaar like the rest of the misers.

I'm sick of people saying "Oops sorry I only have 500 credits" after I've already made an otherwise extremely hard to sell item that took multiple factory components and they agreed upon the price.

What's worse, less than an hour later I'll be out and see their mails from where they bought at least 5k worth of clothing from the vendor sometimes. Yes, they may have acquired the money from missions later. But why don't they do a couple before coming to shop for custom clothing?

Sometimes people say "It's just clothes. They don't do anything" and it makes me want to rip their head off. Howabout I go dress all the dancers in the cantina in brown plain robes and see if it "does anything". Why are you buying them if they don't do anything? I think clothing at least helps self-esteem. Even in game!

It's not logical for me to deliver clothing to people. I especially don't want to go to bestine from anchorhead to deliver clothing to people. My luck they'd be overt imp and I wouldn't even be able to trade with them. Plus I miss out on helping other customers that don't think I'm frigging UPS. I've been asked to deliver clothing all sorts of places. Including Lok. I don't want to go to lok to deliver clothes!!!! I don't care if you're paying my way. That would be the day one of those big ugly things decided to prance into town and I'd ultimately die (possibly repeatedly) because I don't have time to train up my skills which would probably not help in that situation anyway.

I never get tofight because if I do I'm a heartless thoughtless horrible businesswoman. I've been trying to get novice pikeman for ages. But if I go out... even with my AFK message saying I'm not doing custom orders I get "I KNOW UR THERE KARMA I SAWU RUN BY! I NEED FLASWAP!111" If i don't answer this within 7 seconds I get "HELLO HELLO I SAW YOU!!111" I'm not joking at all. Happens 4 out of 5 times I try to do something other than tailor. I say if all i should do is tailor all they should do is climb hills, bounty hunt, handle creatures and dance. Theres no time for clothes! They have to stick with their profession! All day and all night!

At least 30% of my customers are complete peons. This increases to about 50% on weekends. It must stop!

Sorry... have had a couple of bad days...

aww! /hug you deserve a break. tell them you're taking a day off, and if they don't like it, go to someone else. when people critize my prices (as some random people do), i tell them to go elsewhere. i tried the delivery thing, it didn't work out, now i usually don't do business outside kaadara. if you're far away, i'll refer you to another tailor (and sorry karma, that guy was *really*... sad. i still owe you an ice cream for that )

i've had customers like that too... God forbid that i step away from kaadara *gasp* i'm usually very sneaky and has a macro that does /r AFK auto-response: (insert my away message here), and when people msg me, i just press the hotkey. then i can chat with friends, and still block out random tells. (i'm sneaky, i know )

some common tells i get when i'maway from my shopare:

"do you know so-and-so?" (huh) "not that i remember" "he saidhe can't go intyou shop" - OH. well, then he's banned. and there must be a good reason too... like helping that strange stalker bug me! weirdos.

"can you make (insert item here) ?" - yes. however, i know that there are tailors in theed. please contact them instead. one person even decided that he's gonna travel to kaadara to my shop, instead of going to other tailors' shops i gave him wps too. go figure @.@

"can i go to your shop?" -go right ahead.however, i won't be there... and no, i'm not running back right now. in fact, not to be rude, but i'm aggroed by a CL250 critter right now. please try back later. of course, wheni'm actuallyin your shop and greeting customers, some of them tend to ignore me (even with me standing in the middle of the shop with bright color clothing)

"hi are you online" - this alone is fine, unless you do it EVERY SINGLE DAY, and whenever i actually talk to you it turns out to be either "want to buy this from me" or "do you have (insert equipment here)".

oh... that reminds me, a while back i had my first encounter with a door-to-door salesman. yes, in swg... some guy came into my shopand started asking me all these questions about my crafting tool/station, as if i knew nothing about it... then proceed to offer me some "high quality one", all while i'm sitting in my shop trying to restock my vendors. that guy pretty much left me o.O and fairly confused for the night.

I've only had that happen a few times, actually -- and in all cases, I've done the very same: negotiated a 'cheaper' outfit (on the offchance that they're not just trying to con me into a lower price on their duster; sometimes these folks will indeed come back another day saying "I have money now! Make me good stuff!"), or if the garment was already made before they pointed out their lack of funds (I have been very lucky with this: it's happened only rarely), I've simply popped the item into the vendor. At the stated price. Sometimes it sells to them a few hours later when they've found the cash; sometimes it goes to someone else altogether. As far as I'm concerned, given that I am extremely up front about my prices before I make anything other than components, it is the buyer's responsibility to ensure he gets his garment by not agreeing to something he can't afford. Just like in real life. My one exception to this: repeat customers, who I know had simply been distracted at the time, and who I know will actually come back for the outfit.

As for deliveries.. I used to do these, and did one just the other day for a droid engineer friend (you can't help but cut those guys a bit of slack) -- but nowdays? My online time is limited as is, and I could be serving a good number of other customers in the time it takes me to run to town, wait on a shuttle.. and do the same again in reverse. I charge exorbitantly for deliveries, not because I want the money, but because it discourages people from asking for them. Again, an exception: mass deliveries to the town I'm near. If I can do a bunch in one go, and all the customers are willing to wait for those items to get there, no worries.

...lord, all of this sounds really harsh.. *laughs* And ordinarily, I will go out of my way to spend time with my customers and put together something that they'll really enjoy wearing, and for a very reasonable cost. But these two things are simply...rude, and occasionally rather silly. I really cannot see why tailors should put up with them when they can be worked around pretty simply -- and I am so, so grateful that the grand majorityh of customers I've had have been courteous, so very friendly, and in possession of common sense! *grins*

I just don't get some people. They pay 200k+ for their suit of armor and then come to me and want to buy a complete outfit for less then 5k, expecting to get a duster, camos and other high quality gear.

Have about 2-3 of this people every week, sometimes a lot more.

How often do you have people like this, lookig for the best you can offer and willing to pay much less than you are sellingit for?

Well, being as I was one of the earlier masters in the area, I have a customer base that does return, and I'm not sure market saturation has much effect. They keep buying the same things in different colors hehe. But how can I sell a fleshwrap for 15k when there are 2 different shops 15m away that sell it for 4k? I could convince people I'm good enough for maybe 10k, but 15k? Doubtful. Mind you, I'm not stupid, I'll never sell a finished product for the same or less than I could sell the raw materials or even components, but I will respond to market pressure. I'm just not convinced that this is the case yet or not. I ran two schemes for pricing through the calculator, one a "bare minimum" cost effectiveness price, and the other what I would consider a good price. They were both considerably lower than Nivea's prices. Kinda makes one think that lowering prices in this case isn't undercutting, it's responding to increased competition and lowered demand.

I don't get many of those types anymore.

I do get the occasional customer who thinks since they bought 2-3 outfits from me they are my buddy buddies, and then ask me to hook up their new friend who just started the game.

My thought is, why don't you go buy your friend some nice clothes as a gift rather than ask me to outfit them for cheap?

Seriously, done with the right amounts of politeness and charm, that could be a pretty decent business model for a crafting station salesman. For example, I recently discovered that I *didn't* know much about my private crafting station (and that there was a really good reason I found it selling on the bazaar for a low price!) Been meaning to do something about that for a while, but never got around to it. If the guy had visited my shop, he probably would've had a quick sale!

he woulod've been perfectly fine by me, if i wasn't in the middle of something... i was sitting down, and he just came in, and started a 1-sided conversation, occasionally pushing me to answer. it was really strange...he obviously couldn't see that i'm busy, but when i quoted that my tools' effectiveness is 13.8, he though i was giving him a %... not very good for his image, since he started off assuming i had crappy tools =/

that's a great response i once had a newbie that randomly msged me asking for clothing. usually i wouldn't mind, but i don't like people asking for it. so i msged him back with instructions on how to do missions... and he was offline.

i actually don't mind my customers reading some of these posts i make. if they think i'm out of line, so be it. most of them understand that there are annoying people out there, and sympathize with me for having to deal with them... oh lookie, another person that came into my shop, and just ran out after i said hi. i'm not THAT scary looking, am i?

Although I love these "knucklehead customer" threads, I would advise to watch what you say about whom, simply because tailors arent the only ones to read this board.

The first time a major tailor issue comes up, all you'll hear is: "Oh hear come the customer criticising tailors to whine!"

We heard that from the Anti-decay crowd when that first came up.

I don't know, but I have noticed in the last week a dramatic drop off in my business. This is probably related to the two different price undercutters that have set up shop within 3 buildings of my shop. Oh well. Flip side of that is that one of them has vanished already and I'm still there and still fairly wealthy. I did visit the price calculator today to see what I could bear to do to lower my prices and found that Nivea's prices are wonderful right up until the market chooses to stop paying them. There's no pricing scheme even allowing for skill levels and time that reasonably gets prices that high. It's probably a combination of both coming into play now, our prices no longer in line with the server economy thanks to increased competition and undercutters, and people just have no respect for our time and effort. I will say this, though, we have it good compared to architects where the undercutters want to take it down below market value of the raw materials.

Alogra,

It's also possible that market saturation is coming into play. I made master last week, and I don't expect to sell many fleshwraps or leotards at all. Every time I go into a cantina just about every dancer has one. I someone hunting in one.. but that's a discussion for another thread. :-)

My sales have slowed as well.. a combination I think of low storage capacity in houses, market saturation, no decay, etc. Can you imagine how many clothes we'd sell if they added a piece of furniture that stored 50 or 100 items, clothes only?

As I mentioned in my other thread.. I don't think price is all that tied to sales in SWG. If people want something, a few hundred or even a few thousand credits isn't going to slow them down.
