Ok. Since I just started tailoring all I have been doing is grinding. I made a green ribbed shirt for my friend and thats the only person that has any of my clothing. Well he was logged in for the last 12 hours and I had gained 500 XP from doing nothing. I thought maybe all the clothes I was wearing was giving me UXP so I striped down to my undies. Now in the last 30-45 minutes I have gained 250 more xp. All I have been doing is sampling fiberplast for grinding later. I also should mention he is on corellia and I am on talus.

Does anyone have any ideas on how UXP works? Or does tailoring skill just go up from sitting out in the middle of nowhere doing nothing?

I should also mentioned that I watched the xp bar for about 10 minutes and I gained at random intervals and random values. 2 min 3xp, 5 min 1xp, 2 min 10xp.

I've been getting bunches of UXP from clothes I made. I'm a 75/25 sell/grind clother. So I have a good amount of stuff out there. I wish I could give hard numbers, but I know I am getting a bunch. I'll try and see if I can't get some numbers. Though, with the patch coming out doing wierd things with UXP, I'm not sure if things will change or not.

I just tried to see if I got xp from wearing my own clothes and i'm going on 10 min withonly 2 xp gain.

Mind boggling.

Surely I can't be the only person who noticed this? The thread is basically a huge yammering about clothing decay, but this quote from Holocron made my jaw drop:

"This is also why there is no UXP for clothing (UXP is currently granted only for items that decay, such as weapons and armor, or for consumables)."

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=tailor&message.id=10335&highlight=uxp#M10335

**edit**? And why are we only learning about this now???

It does appear to be a true statement. I've got lots and lots of people wearing my stuff, and went on vacation for a week. My Tailoring XP went up a whopping 80 points in seven days. (I'm guessing that's maybe someone using synthetic cloth or RFPs that I made?)

The biggest gripe I have with this profession and its handling is that there's never been the slightest acknowledgement of the insanely perverse way tailoring XP works. Obviously, it isn't true, but it seems as if the devs made a design decision "We hate tailors, so let's come up with as many ways as possible to make their advancement as slow as possible. Ideas? Make high-level tailored items generate 2% of the XP that a Ribbed Shirt gives? Great, boffo idea! Then eliminate their UXP without ever telling them or giving them a way to track it? I'll buy that for a dollar! And since grinding is our favorite thing, let's ensure that tailors will never ever advance unless they do it."

Seriously, I know this relentless hammering of tailors is all probably uninitentional, but I wish we'd at least get thrown a bone, or simply see some acknowledgement that there *is* a problem.

I don't understand why you're so mad. Your yelling nerf when there never was one. From what Holocron said UXP was never granted to tailors. Sure it was for a while in Beta. But that was because there was item decay then but testers didn't like it so they pulled it.

The amount of xp is suppose to be related to how much resources and item takes. Or at least that is what it read for other crafters. It might be a good idea to check this and make sure that our xp gain on items is correct.

I have definately gotten exp when logged off or not doing any tailoring. It's not much and not consistent but it has been there.

My main beef isn't so much the fact that UXP was never granted to tailors as the fact we were never *told* that UXP was never granted to tailors. (Or, really, anything specific about how *any* UXP works or any method of tracking it, so it's always been shrouded in mystery no matter what the profession.)

And in fact, there's been a fairly consistent view from the devs that UXP is viewed as an important and necessary thing in general. AFAIK, nobody has ever stated before now that tailors (or any other profession) did *not* have UXP.

If there had been a line in the user's manual or even some dev clarification in July along the lines of "Oh, by the way, Tailors don't have UXP," I might be mildly annoyed, but having this rather important bit of information only publicly revealed now is extremely aggravating.

Hmmm I'll check this tonight when I loging too. I was under the impression that it wasn't working.

Y'know, actually, I'm not so sure UXP isn't working (at least a little bit) myself, now that I think of it. I've watched my Tailoring XP go up *while online and playing* several times.

The more I think of it, I believe Holocron may be misinformed and that there's a slightly different bug at work - that UXP is only collected when you're online and playing, perhaps in proximity to the clothes you made (same planet? same region?) And "offline" UXP might only be generated by components used by another crafter (e.g. Synthetic Cloth used by an armorsmith, etc.)

But certainly if UXP was working offline with any consistency, I would've gotten a *lot* more Tailoring XP during a week's absence than I actually did.

I have definitely gotten UXP from tailored items. I was out surveying one day and qualified for a new artisan skill level out of the blue. I was really confused until I remembered that I just had sold some crates of fiberplast panels to an armorsmith. I know I've also seen jumps in exp overnight.

I was pretty sure that UXP was working, so I was thrown for a loop by Holo's statement as well. I know I used to get UXP from components that I sold, but I stopped selling components when the factories broke and I needed to keep all the synth runs I could make! I'm sure the crates I sold many weeks ago are long gone, but I still get tiny xp boots from time to time when I'm not crafting (not even in my factory).

Sue, I completely agree with you that xp is ridiculous. When I hit Novice Tailor, I opened a shop. Just crafting one of each Novice item to display gave me a great bonus to my first Tier 1 skill. I'm shocked now that I'm hitting higher level skills and making one of each new item gives such tiny amounts of xp. I guess they give low xp because we'd also get xp from making the components for the items, but since most of the high tier things require factory components the xp rewards for high level clothes are just pathetic. I started this game on day one and have made it all the way to 3-3-3-3 with no grinding and without using the factory exploit. And now I'm getting frustrated because the higher I get the slower my xp is going. I have all these great high level things I can make and they barely help my xp. I'm starting to think I'll have to start grinding if I want to reach master in the next month or two. They said that a casual player could master their chosen profession in 3 months, but apparently for tailors this is only possible if you grind.

How are we ever supposed to become good littleforce sensitives if the tailoring XP game is forcing us all to grind? We all know that the quick and easy path leads to the dark side...
