Tailor Archive
Thread: Information from Shug_Ninx (from SWG Discussion)
I -am- going to complain that new features like this are being discussed, and will likely be implemented, while major issues and bugs remain in the class (ahem, DECAY, ahem).
I was talking about getting schematics in return for quests just the other day. But I think tailors should get difficult delivery missons not ones that require you to be able to kill. Some of us just don't have the room for a fighting skill and we're beat down enough right now with the whole nothing to experiment on thing without having to pay someone for schems or just hope our guildmates or friends want to do particular quests for/with us.
I think there should be a wide variety of different missions with schematic rewards. There should definately be some delivery-type quests, and some artisan quests (surveying or crafting). But they should also have some combat quests. I know that would disappoint some tailors with no combat skills, part of the purpose of these quests would be togive us something to work for. But another part would be to help make more of a difference between tailors. So that every master tailor can't make all the same things the second they hit master. And lower level tailors can choose to run some quests instead and gain access to neat newschems that even some of the masters can't make yet.If the quests they offered schematics for were all easy things that only required time and/or money to complete they wouldn't be as fun.
Besides, every tailor who really wanted to could complete all the quests eventually, it would just be a little easier for those with combat skills to do the combat portions. I assume they'd be like theme park quests, where the person who takes the mission gets the reward but can have help from others. So you could get friends to go with you for the rough stuff. And if you don't have combat type friends I'm sure you could find someone willing to do it for the adventure (and possibly if you pay their travel costs or something).
The main thing I'm hoping is that the schematic quests are only available to members of the appropriate professions. I don't want every crafter being able to use all the quested clothing schematics, it would be unfair to those of us who spent our skillpoints on tailor. If some tailors earned schematics that other tailors don't have that's fine. But I don't want weaponsmiths or armorsmiths (who have spent no points in tailoring) earning schematics that not all tailors have. And I hope they're treated like normal advanced-profession schematics, if you give up your Novice Tailor skill you should lose your clothing quest schematics.
I hate to break it to you but the new clothing they are talking about is not schematics. They are talking about new clothing items that only NPC's drop. Items that tailors CAN NOT make. So rather than helping the tailor it actually hurts the tailor. People will want to kill more NPC's to get the "rare" clothing rather than going to the master tailors. The weapon and armor smiths are facing the same problem. There is rumor that these new items will be better than anything a crafter can make. This creates problems for all high level crafters, it certainly doesn't make things better.
I would love to see schematics get dropped for profession specific missions. But what will the mission be go make a new jacket for Han Solo? The best possible solution would be for sections of an item to be dropped. These parts would then only be able to be put into place by a master crafter. This would help keep the full combat folks occupied with a goal of unique loot and it would make crafters be integral in incorporating the loot into finished products. (IE: a fiberplast panel with huge bonuses to combat or healing that can be put into armor or clothing by a master crafter)
"We basically agree with the assertion that the rewards for missions - especially theme park missions and quests - need to be more robust. We also think that you should get better loot from the major dungeons. Right now, we're looking at some things like:
*New weapons,clothingand armor
*Schematics for the above"
I belive this is great news, this would help tailors to get items not craftable by the default tailor skills. This helps making us tailors more unique, to me the main problem with this game is that it is too easy to get to master level, and when you do there is no unique about you.. all Master tailors can do the same items with the same colours and the same durability. IF they add new clothing and schematics as rewards in themepark quests.. this will improve the game a lot.
way to go devs!
Great.. these missions require skills that as a tailor/merchant I just don't have. That mean I lose out? Thanks, SWG. Thanks a lot...

Maybe shifting schematic drops? Kinda like resources but they shift every couple of weeks/months. These would be one-shot self-destructing. These items would be like SE goggles and you couldn't sell/trade them. Sorta like a "Hey I finished a quest and got a cool item!" You get a nifty item for finishing a quest and it doesn't have to look exactly like everyone else's that did the quest.
