Thread: People don't know how to browse a vendor

I was wondering if I'm just extremely unlucky or if it happens to everyone else... Almost everytime I send my waypoints to someone they come back to me saying they didn't find what I told them I had in stock or what they were looking for. They don't know how to use the vendor! They only look at the first page, and everytime I have to tell them to use the sorting options and/or look at the next pages...

Just a small rant, but does it only happen to me?

It's not only you. It's a condition brought on by the fact the global bazaar does not list player vendors (as it is supposed to someday) so "This Region" confuses the average customer. Many don't notice the "This Vendor" or "All" options. And many, many don't notice the "next page" option. Even on the city bazaars. Those buttons really should be highlighted to stand out more.

It just messes with people's minds when similar systems don't have identical appearance, functions, columns and such. How much do you wish there was a "Time left" column on your shop vendors? Or even an Auction column! A one-click withdraw all timed-out sales function!?

But it's not just you. I'm surprised how often I "teach" someone how to use a bazaar terminal of vendor. Or mission terminals for that matter. ALL those columns will sort people... all of them. Want the highest paying mission in one direction? Sort on "pay" and "direction." Really speeds up the refresh click rate. LOL. A million little things to learn about how this game works. I'll never learn half of them. I know I won't.

Don't worry, over time, these little functionality details will trickle through the masses and someday perhaps an updated manual or strategy guide will come out with this kind of information in it. You know, the kind that makes the game less frustrating? Yah, ah huh.

On a similar note, never, ever trust customers to not use a custom order vendor inappropriately. I set up a vendor where I could place custom orders for easy pick-up. I calledthe vendor"TekkWear Clothing Custom Orders." I made the vendor ad bark a message along the lines of, "If you've placed a custom order with Jyron, you'll find it here." I created two dummy items called "DON'T PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS VENDOR" and "UNLESS YOU HAVE ORDERED IT FROM ME" and placed them on the vendor for 1 million credits each (to make them stand out and to prevent people from buying them). I gave every item a unique name (i.e., "Coric's Heavy Reinforced Jacket," "Morbacca's Order," etc.). And yet despite all these precautions, customers continued to purchase custom orders that didn't belong to them, and not all of them were gracious enough to return the items when I pointed out their error. So I moved the custom order vendor to the basement, and predictably enough, nobody could find it when they were supposed to. So then I gave up on making custom orders. That's my depressing story of the day.

yeah - i now have my ad barking to point out the use of the "Next Items" button since i came to the realisation that most people dont notice it there...
when i could finally make gunmans dusters i stocked my vendor with them.
None sold... im like - hmm **edit**?
Then i got some tells & emails from some people asking if i could please stock or restock somme... yet my vendor had some this whole time, in fact i hadnt sold a single one...
Because they were a new addition to the vendor stock they were on like page three of my vendors listing...
Added the little "Use next items" info to the vendors ad barking and now stuff has finally started to sell off the later pages.

Mind you until i added another ad barking vendor to my main room (medium naboo) telling customers to go back the way they came and give the vendors in the entry foyer area time to load up i had peopel wandering aimlessly in my house looking for my vendors...
Everyone would charge into the house thru the foyer into teh main room missing theveendors cos they got past them before they loaded... *sigh*

THis is why I have 5 vendors ... even when I put a custom ad barking telling people to look at all the pages, they still didn't.

The only solution has been keeping each vendor to a single page which is why I have the 5 vendors. I can't tell you how many folks have commented on my shop and how easy it is to find stuff. The bad thing is it takes a ton of skill points to get up the merchant tree but it has been worth it.

By the way ... my vendors are named:

* Boutique Items (for formal and entertainer items)

* Uniforms and Field Wear

* Shoes, Boots, and Gloves

* Cloaks, Packs, Headgear, & Misc

* Wookie Wear Items

Ah. Good point Ghartan. There's the best reason yet I've seen for having more than one vendor if you are a merchant that doesn't plan to place satellite shops.

Why is there a next page at all? Why can't it just scroll?

As a note, the this region and this vendor options do not appear when browsing the vendor as a customer, just as the owner. This is there for the owner so that they can view the items in all of their vendors at once.

Oh, and if it just scrolled, vendors with 5+ pages to load would be hell for the average player, especially on a laggy day. It could take several minutes to load the whole list, so it's divided into pages to cut down on loading time.

It happened again... I had to put something on the vendor because I didn't have the same faction as my client, told him to look under clothing and bodysuits... He could not find it. *sigh*

if that "faction" problem happens, it means the other person has a "faction mission" saved in their datapad. If they get rid of it, they can trade ith you.. happens to me a lot.... very annoying bug!

I have vendors reminding people to use the 'all' button to sort, as well as to check the second page.

Haven't sold a single duster tho since the big patch....they sit under 'misc' I think. Should be under outerwear.
