My BE friend and I talked about tissue possiblities for about two hours the other day, and we've both posted over there (although neither of us touched the armor tissue topic - it's too scary). It's great to get some BE feedback, they have some great ideas!
P.S. Why does everyone forget that you can wear a BE bandolier with armor? It's not just a shirt

ok, lets see... IMHO i think this would just about kill tailor....
Armor has a lot of perks atm as is... including AA to help boost it.... people will have no need for BE clothing is this happens.... i already have heard many people talk about how they never buy clothes, since their armor has "such-such AA in it".
just my thoughts, but i will agree with the "over my COLD DEAD body"...

Hi all,
I put in a post on the threat your talking about, thought it might more properly belong here so I am going to re-post here. My thoughts on BE changes and how it could add greater dimension and variety to playing styles and clothing. Regardless I'd like to see your thoughts on the topic. Thanks,
------
Reading through most of these posts (not all) I wonder if we have missed an essential piece of balance that perhaps can resolve this Armor/Clothing issue. Seems to me the big problem with armor (as a master AS) is encumberance. You have to be buffed to wear the heavy stuff and still be able to use your specials. Sure you can fight non-buffed forget about any specials. (So I'm thinking mainly PVE here).
Main benefit of clothing is zero encumberance right? I remeber when I first started playing this game last year, when everything was new. The idea was that ranged folks probably would use Clothing and Melee would opt for armor. So how do we balance such that this becomes a possibility with BE tissues? I think it would be neat to explore in this thread how BE enhanced clothing could be made to allow Non-Buffed Ranged Combat in a PvE setting. How could we do this?? (I'd look forward to your ideas on the topic))
one thought I have is -- first clothing allows you to use all those specials you need to kill the beasties quickly, regen quickly - what's missing is a modicum of protection on the scale of what lighter armors can provide. So I will put forward the concept that clothing can advance in its combat-arena usefulness (and not replace armor but work in a different way)iftailors can get BE tissue that provides enough resists to allow a ranged player to play unbuffed, use specials, and kite and still have a reasonable chance of survival -- IN clothing. I think that brings real value.
How many people out there hate waiting in line for buffs when you only want to play a little, it would be like your non-buff suit that lets you tackle some light harvesting if your a scout (so also meshes with + harvesting tissue) etc.
Look forward to your thoughts
Thanks!

Priall,
I like you're thinking. Implement armor like in Starship Troopers (the book) which is a combination vehicle, armor and weapon, and make it contain robotics, bio tissues, and medicine injections too. Wohoo! We could all be beholden to armorsmiths that way, lol.
Sheesh, it really makes me sad though to see people like that so eager to trod all over someone else just to get a perceived leg up themselves. I suppose it's inevitable that the game mirror that though, since there are those types in rl.

Well, I posted my bit and after reading what Melprious (sp?) had to say, I think I'm pretty much done talking over there - besides, if I open my mouth again for too long, something nasty will come out. Something nasty and spiteful, kind of like this:
You know what, you're absolutely right! You guys should be able to make tissues that go in our cloths that go in armor! In fact, why don't the devs change it so everyone can supply components for armor! You can make the tissues, we become factories for synth cloth and reinforced panels (since no-one will wear clothing, yay!), the chefs could make some magic hyper-sugar that would help lower incumbrence, weaponsmiths could put little guns in the bracers and blades on the gloves so no-one would need weapons, and I'm sure we could come up with something for droid engineers and architects! Maybe a little collapsible tent that could shoot out of the helmet.. of course, scouts/rangers would have to provide the kits for the architects, so that means more industry geared toward armor! Yay!!

Well I read that thread in it's entirety, and posted ... probably to the tailoring community's detriment. My temples are still throbbing. I'm going to calm myself a bit and go delete it.

Rand,
The thing to realize about that thread is that 50% of the posts in it are by a single guy who is a chef and a 'smith (and a tailor-hater apparently) and insists on responding to every single post by someone with an opinion different than his. Need I say more?
It didn't take long before I grew tired of his constant attacks on tailors so I gave up on that thread for my own sanity. I don't think that the bio engineers agree with him as a whole (you can see this by the number of them "voting" in the top 5 list threads for more tailor tissues). The one constructive thing that I took out of that thread was that unless these new tissues would be accompanied by a large serge in popularity of bio clothing as a whole, then they aren't really benefitial to be's because it's a small market already (sheesh, it's been months since a tailor asked me about tissues), and dividing up that small market amongst more tissues is more headache then benefit to a be that wants to focus on that.
So, said another way, I think the stuff about figuring out ways to wear more clothing along with armor that can contain bonuses that are useful in combat becomes a pre-requisit to getting more types of tissues made. Otherwise there may be no net benefit to be's (which may very well be true).

It's so wierd. I must use at least 3 crates of melee defense tissue a day - ON JEDI ALONE.... they don't wear those robes. When I wear them, you barely notice either bonus and you obviously notice the difference when putting on a +16 Melee/+25 Stundefense outfit. I've been hopping busy just trying to fill all their orders. I am now trying to find a BE that will make me orders of 10 crates so I can mass produce "Jedi Suits" which are all melee defense. (Guess what colour they want most? *smirk*)
I know that armour is getting a massive nerf. I would not be surprised if it is 50% or more. Armour simply should not block 90% of any damage. With doctor buffs, you create invincible supermen. I've seen friends go toe-to-toe with Dark Jedi Masters on dantooine, or the Nightsister Elders on Dathomir. Those are supposed to be nightmare opponents for 20+ people, not the loot-booty for swordsmen with powerhammers and scythes.
Who remembers July last year? PVP was brutal:
Bang...Bang...Dead
Band...Bang...Dead
Bang...Bang.........BANG...Dead
"Ooooh that 3rd one was tough"
yes, you died fast. We didn't have buffs (no master docs yet) and36% composite was the best you could get. Heck, I had mabari for the longest time.
We're going back to those days soon ebybody. That means that clothing is going to be a viable option, if we can get more variety in the tissue options
