I had an idea I'm sure many have. I'm making revealing tops/pantaloons/bakers caps... a new little trendy combo. Thing is, they are cute in ALL colors. So, I sigh to myself, hand making each set since factory runs only make items in one color.
In light of the merchant nerf due to storage issues, I got to thinking.
The way it's set up right now, if we want to use our factories to make clothes, it's usually like a 10 unit run of something in black, right? Then, we put a few on the vendor, and have over stock until the others sell. 10 red, 10 white, 10 blue.
But what if we could make the clothes in larger amounts, then dye them afterwards?
Ahhh wouldn't that be cool? I know I sell pantaloons. I can make a run of 100. But not 100 of periwinkle blue. So, if I could make the run colorless, then dye each one by hand... that would be something, woudln't it? No more back stock, AND I can make many more colors in a much faster way.
This is modern tech here, so that wouldn't be too far-fetched. Right now, our factories are operating on 19th century textile technology.
Can we consider maybe changing to a system like this?

Its an idea that has been discussed over and over agian and I think that the general conclusion is that this is something that will only work if
1) It could only be done by tailors. Dye kits for everyone would completely kill the profession.
2) You could only dye in the colors you are allowed to have. A novice could not use master dyes, for example. That way people wouldn't grind up to master, make a bunch of dye kits and drop most of their skills.
3) It could only be done within a few minutes of being created or pulled out of a crate. If you think that tell hell is bad now then add lots of people asking if you could re-dye their clothes for them! It would also take away sales from people who like to buy the same thing in lots of colors depending on their mood.

Perhaps as a dialog only WHEN you pull it from the crate -- Like crafting the full thing, just skipping to the Name/Colour screen (and colours based on the puller's skill)
Just my two cents.

Exactly! You know it asks you if you want to make a prototype/or schematic... you chose schematic and it goes on to colorization. Why not stop it at schematic, then pop up the customization as you pull from the crate? Genious !

I am all about this!!!i hate doing a run of the same color clothing, so atm, i will spend a good 3 hrs crafting my set of clothes in a variety of colors cause i get more ppl who want other then black!!
lol... i agree with the having to be master to use master color too... cause if not, you would see the same thing like in merchant... dropping skills but using colors!!
ok... my 2 cents!!

For a more convient solution make crafters able to set colors for the items in the schematic.
Ex. make a schematic of 10 shirts.
1. after makeing the schematic you have a option to set colors on the 10 shirts
2 red, 2 blue , 2 black , 2 white, 2 gray.
To accomplish this a window (similar to inventory window) pops up and you click or drag over the shirts you want to set the colors for then you hit a button on the window (set color). After you have finished setting your colors you then hit finish schematic button. Place Scematic in fatory and wait to finish. When factory is done you and you get crate to pull out items instead of it just going to inv you get a window so you can select which item to pull out since they are different colors.
Don't know how conceivable this is but it would be the only solution to making factory runs on clothes to get different colors with out adding extra skills to tailor.

I would accept this change conditionally.
If onlyI (me or myself)could dye my clothing after they were made, then yes, good idea.
If another Master Tailor could dye MY clothing, then NO!
Maybe im being a stickler on this, i dont care. Unless that condition is met then i am 100% opposed to the idea.
