Thread: Something I am considering trying, I need some input.

First off let me say that I am a very loyal tailor and I love all but one thing about the profession... Keeping a well stocked vendor, I realize I could load a bunch of the old standards, sell many many striped pants, gunman's and uniform boots. But, I prefer doing everything for the individual, it can be hectic at times and not as profitable, but it is so very rewarding to conduct business in this manner. To this end, beginning tonight, I am going to embark on a new venture for me...

I am going to become a Jewler!

This means I will keep one vendor for the clothing I feel like putting on there, but I will set a few others across the galaxy all of them specifically for jewlery, I'd like to make a living (at least as far as vendors are concerned) selling fine rings, bracelets and necklaces.

I do have some questions,

does this sound like a good idea first off? (it really just sounds fun for me, best reason to do it IMO)

Are any of you doing this now? if so do you have any advice?

Have any of you done this before? what were the issues that made you stop?

Thank you for your time, please give input freely

I think that specialization is great! It's a way to make a name for yourself by having a really good stock of what you specialize in, and you don't burn out trying to stock EVERYTHING. It might be a good idea to partner up with a tailor who is doing everything else, just so people don't have trouble finding you, and so that you get business from when they buy an outfit and need the perfect accessory. I personally have never stocked or worn jewelry - I just hate it, even after the necklace bug was fixed, and would have loved a business partner who would take jewelry off my hands.

On a side note - are there any tailors out there who are planning to specialize in Ithorian wearables when they are released? Many tailors may not bother with Ithorian wearables at all simply because there will be relatively few Ithorians.

Hi there. Long time lurker, first time poster herein this great family of sewers

I plan on specializing in the Ithorian wear, at least for a few months. I've been saving my last vendor just for Iths and Wooks--Big n' Tall (n' Furry)

I think your jewelry specialization is a very unique idea and would be welcomed in my galaxy. Whenjewelry is combined with specific tops/dresses, certain necklaces can suddenly become fancy ties/cravats. Just one example...and jewelry really does complete an outfit on some toons. Kudos for the creative idea.

It sounds like something that could be enjoyable. I personally dont sell that much jewelry and my vendor has a second page just on jewelry. So from a money standpoint i dont expect it would generate a huge amount. However i doubt money is what you have in mind (well lets be honest does any tailor? ) so i hope you go through with it and enjoy it

It seems like it's worth a try. The worse thing that can happen is that you'll have stocked jewelry vendors. I've had quite a few people buying 2 or 3 pieces at a time and I only have a couple of styles stocked. I've found one thing people love is renamed bands. I give them names like "I love you" or "Together Forever" and I've had 3 sets sell out in a matter of hours.

I'll be putting up an Ithorian vendor as well. I already have a Wookie Vendor, so might as well add the one for the Ithorians as well.

As for the Jeweler idea, it sounds like a neat idea. My Jewelry Only Vendor usually sells out on most items a couple days after I restock it.

I have a vendor named "Me'lya Family Jewelers" and it is working pretty well. I am selling alot more jewelery than I thought I would. I try to stock up but the lack of customization sort oflimits what I can offer. My rings sell surprisingly well, I often rename them and people do buy them.

Sounds like a great idea, and just think of the components you won't need to carry around so much

I don't know what Intrepid's bazaarsarelike but it might be worth putting jewellery on there as well. I know when I first started playing it was really annoying to keep looking at Coro bazaar for bracelets and necklaces and not finding any (Never did get my earrings thought...)

As for the Ithorians, I will be putting an Ithorian vendor in my store and will make a big a selection as I can assoon as possible. Then I'll just restock it as it sells. Pretty much what I do with my Wookiee Wear vendor. As long as the resources needed don't change before they hit live I should be good to go as soon as I have access to the schems. Only problem is now I need to fit 26 hours into a day...

I've always stocked lots of jewelry, even when we still had to write in a detailed description for each piece before they fixed the invisible bug for necklaces. I also had a large jewelry display: one of each type of necklace next to the vendor. Jewelry always sold well.

Since moving into the new mall, and the 12 vendors addition, I have one vendor named: Serenity Jewelry and Accessories. (Belts, Bandoliers, Shoes, Hats, Gloves, as well as Jewelry). Some of each of those items are on display around that vendor. Sales are very, very good.

I plan to set up an Ithorian only vendor right next to my Wookiee only vendor. Factories are chugging away.

Having my stock separated out among vendors like this has helped a lot with simplifying restocking. Customers seem to like it a lot too. They can go straight to the Outerwear vendor or the Crates vendor, etc.and not have to sort through so much stuff.

And the shop looks nice with all those clerks standing around.

I've considered opening up branch locations in merchant tents that have specialized vendors. Just shoes. Or just jewelry. Hmm. Might be fun.
