Ahh my friends....

Those of you who slave away making hundreds of peices of clothing.. Day after day.... Trying your best to keep up with a always busy vendor and its demands..

I wish to say. Gawd Bless you.. How do you do it? I almost lost my mind trying to keep up with mine.... There came a point where the money stopped mattering.. Where I had forgetton why I picked Tailor in the first place.... Did I feelsatisfyed having yet another email showing afew more credits in my account for the Thousandth time?

Nope... Not in the least....

See I picked Tailor for afew reasons...

1) I loved to change my toons looks from day-to-day...

2) I loved how Tailor allowed my creativeaty to be expressed..

3) And for me most importantly I loved watching players walk away wearing my newly crafted outfits. And having them smile as the leave..

Note: Money wasn't on that list...

Once I decided on having a vendor.. It all went bad for me.. Yes I got busy... And popular... The game it's self felt more and more like A Real life job then a game to enjoy... My love of Tailor became a hate.... I loathed logging on to be a grinding monkey yet again... Money meant nothing to me after the first few million..

Then one day.. I just stopped...

I sold off the last of my inventory.. closed my shop... And went on walkabout for a month...

I rediscoverd the reseaons I had picked and had loved Tailor all over again...

This was my first time Doing Tailor some liftimes ago. I have picked up Tailor again with my latest toon. And I wont drop it. I've learned my lessons about having vendors.. You can easyly become a slave to them and your success...

Now I keep Tailor as my secondairy Profession. I am the one who offers players my services.. Guildmates, Players I meet and like, Players with a sence of taste.. Noob players.. People like that... I enjoy Tailor so much now. And am not in the least stressed about how I play it now..

To my Fellow Tailors out there who might feel like a slave to the profession. Ask yourself why you wanted to be a Tailor? Maybe you can find enjoyment in the profession again as I have..

Best of luck to all you Tailors out there..

I think thats why i am coping reasonably well. I lost my mind ages ago, now im just content with that.

Money never matted in the first place with me, im making 1-2 million a day on average, if it really mattered id have stopped long ago as ive got enough built up to last me for a long long time.

TBH im not entirely sure why i still do it, im about as busy as ii can possibly cope with, sometimes spending 6 hours a day restocking (while chatting to friends of course), ive done it for about 15 months now, so yes i have lost my mind a long time ago

I think a good part of it, is i enjoy providing a service, and my shop functions as a provider for many more people than i could possibly do in custom orders. I honestly dont enjoy custom orders all that much. It gives a good deal of satisfaction when people compliment me on the selection i provide, or the specialist outfits i have on display/sale.

I love building my shop. When my main character used to look for a good tailor shop, it always ended up in a headache, poor selection and nothing was labeled. When I created my tailor I wanted to have the best shop in the galaxy and to fill that void.

Some days I'll craft and craft and craft and do nothing but craft all day. I really get into it though. I enjoy finding an item I haven't stocked very well and adding new colors and combinations. Other days I won't feel much like crafting and if I don't have much to stock, I'll just go play on my combat character for the day. I love viewing my sales reports and seeing who bought what, and what is selling well. Nothing beats when someone comes into my shop and says it's the best, and I'm not even finished with it yet.

I find that when I'm in vendor mode, I love it. Having a well-stocked vendor is so much fun. However, when I'm in vendor mode, custom orders irritate me to no end. I'm thinking - what, all this stuff you want is on my vendor, already made, and it took me about a minute to make the exact outfit that you're debating over. Why do I have to listen to you yapping? Do I get paid extra for that? Hmmm maybe I can grab a snack while you're agonizing over color selection.

But after taking a forced break from vendor sales, I don't know if I could go back. It's a lot of work! Doing custom orders also has brought my ID-side out of hibernation (since ID and vendor sales aren't that compatible) so I'm enjoying the "full makeover" aspect of life

I keep afk on with a 'send custom orders via email, but please check the vendors first' in the message, while i restock every day

For like you, when in 'vendor mode' i just get so anoyed with custom orders

I also enjoy the ID/Makeover but its pretty much reserved for when my vendors are fully stocked, and/or for people who already know i ID

I still prefer my vendors. Once I get them restocked it lasts for a couple of weeks so I can go the village, do weddings and other things (MxO)

I honestly do not like custom orders that much. I used to do many... and now I try to avoid it like the plague (unless I am doing a wedding of course). I like my merchant shop and my merchants, I like dressing them up and decorating my shop. Yes sometimes the restocking can be a pain but once it's done, I can go do other things. Hardest part is getting set to craft. Once I have all the materials I need, it really doesn't take me that long, and it's relaxing.

I've been a wandering tailor since forever. Anytime I hit a cantina, shuttle, bank, or somewhere alot of people congregate, my friends refer to Jame-lag. This is the time it takes for her to continue her journey. Kind of like shuttles.

I tell you, the life of the wandering tailor is really appealing right now.

A couple months after I made Master, I decided it was time to sit down and fully stock my vendors. So I locked myself in my storage house for the weekend, and crafted every single item in at least 6 different colors. I was naming them by {color}{item name}{Sockets}{my tag}. It burnt me out. It burnt me out badly. But, I had well stocked vendors and people started coming from all over and I started to get a recognized name. After a while, vendor levels had dropped, and I was in no mood to restock them. Plus, having naming everything color first, I had like 3 pages of black stuff and no idea what I was sold out of and what I need to restock. So I let the vendors rot and went to custom orders only and playing my combat alt.

When the vendor changes came, I decided to redo all the vendors again, but this time only restock the most popular items and colors. Well, 1 month later, and half my vendors are still sitting empty, burning maintenance and I am seriously thinking of deleating half of them, keeping my BE, Components, and Custom Order Vendors and going totally custom orders. Maybe even picking up ID as well.

There is a lot to be said about keeping a nice shop and well stocked vendors, but like a lot of you have said, it becomes a full time job and I don't need another one of those

ID has alot to do with my being able to be a wandering Tailor, and not reling on Tailor as a main source of income. Fact is I can afford to had out free clothing. I uselly do lol. But uselly when I am IDing a totally new look to a player.. New Skin color? Well you'll need anew outfit to go with that skin.. That kinda thing.. Totally fun

I have 9 vendors in 3 different shops and while at times restocking can be a pain its never quite as bad as it seems to me. The only thing I will agree on is a lack of a reason why i keep going.Money has never been my focus but its nice to have but the game really lacks anything to spend it on.

My advice to anyone having trouble is to plan ahead with stocking vendors that and afew quick pointers should be ok.

1. Stock for the big sales day. For me the weekend is the time when the biggest sales hit the vendors I find it a good idea to stock as much as possible the Thursday or Friday before the rush.

2. Stock Little but often, having to grind out 500 items in one go is enough to drive anyone mad. Try to a few hours each day knocking out a few items and saving major stocking before the big sales.

3. Keep the factories rolling. You factories should always be making something, fill the output hopper up with items but spread it across all the raw items need. Nothing worst than stocking items and running out of cloth half way through.

4. Dont be afraid to use the factory to make clothes. I know their is a honour with tailors to hand make items, but most customers dont know. Popular items such as black gloves, boots and cloaks and be factory made and just popped out of a crate in your backpack when you need to restock. This is great for packs as the sockets are no use them anyway.

5. 90% of the people want 20% of your stock. We might be able to make 100 different items in over 150 different colours but 90 % of the people buy from a very limited range. I sell about 20 black cloaks to every 1 green one. This knowledge is useful, dont bother to try and stock every item in every colour. You need agoodselection of items but focus on the popular colours and styles just make more of them so you dont have to restock the popular items so often.

6. You dont need to stock 1,000's of items, the truth is if you dont have a black belt in a certain style most customers are quite happy to buy a different style in that colour. When choosing what items to stock think about outfits people might want. Balance the number of jackets, pants and shirts and colours. People as in real life go for matching outfits and colours. If your stock enables peopel to pick and chose items you dont need to stock as many different ranges. ie Make items in the same colour shades.

7. Dont feel bad about low stock. Its easy to feel down when you check your vendor to find only 50 items on it. Their often comes an internal feeling that your letting people down. Dont if you want to enjoy the game and not stock for a while dont. Customers tend to be willing to come back if they find a low stock, the only issue is do it to often and the customers might stay away for good. If you want to take a longer break try leaving a notice by the vendor so they know when the next re-stock might be.

8. Spice up the displays and stock. Knocking out the same items day after day week after week is not much fun. So try and spice up your range once a while, focus on a certain area or theme for your clothes and come up with new ideas. Owning your shop is useful here as you can display your own work. With JTL coming up soon why not stock and range of flightsuits, or with winter only month away how about a range of winter blue and ice white clothes.
