(I don't kno if this has been mentioned before or not, I'm not a fan of the forums...but heres something I want to say anyhow.)
I was just now grinding through Tailor...and someone asked me to craft something. I am not a master I just have a few of the skills.
But during the color chosing, I'm staring at the palettes. And it occurs to me...what the hell. There isn't a yellow, blue or red to be found. No instead there is a bunch of tertiary colors. Inside of the master box though, we have the primaries blue, red, yellow and all the secondary colors as well like green, orange and purple.
You now ask, So...whats your point?
Well my point is in grade school...I learned to make secondary colors and tertiary colors out of Primary colors.
SO why at novice and going up do I have a bunch of off colors a bunch of complex colors that can't be created on their own? And why do I have to be a MASTER to learn how to use the basic colors, the three main colors?
This makes no sense at all...
It also makes just about any Tailor but a master useless (Like every other crafting profession I know...)
But still none the less doesn't someone else believe that this was stupidly designed?

Make everything black and White as a novice and put them on the Eisley Bazaar for 2k each. Everything will go

Exactly. This is the core of the whole profession and probably the whole game. The devs have not designed it from any real logic but rather from a what's-easy-to-do and how-can-we-squeeze-this-feature-in. Unfortunately this leads to some very strange things that may sometimes be fun to play if you don't think too much about it. Personally, I have long since given up trying to understand why the devs act as they do. It's much better for your health, both physical and mental, if you do the same. Ignorance really is a bliss.

It makes perfect sense if you accept the idea that Master > Novice. More people want the bright primary colors, so getting them is a reward for making Master.
Also, I think youranalogy is fallacious. Grade school children are provided the paints to create the primary colors. As a Tailor, you are hand-crafting your own dyes. I would guess that creating deep, rich colors that last is much more difficult than just creating an off-white fabric.
Just my 2 cedits.

I agree that black and white sell best for novice tailors but want to add that some other colors (tans, greens) can also look good with the right outfit. Try naming the outfits or coming up with "clothing lines" such as "Sandy", "Conservative", or "Ranger"which may draw attention to the less bright colors for role-players. Black and red isa great combo (I called that line "Dark Politician")and with many items, the contrast of black and red makes the red appear brighter. Black and green had the same effect (I called it "Jungle").
Play around with what you have and be creative! And remember, newbies on Tatooine will buy almost ANYTHING that looks different from their newbie clothes -- especially items that are all black.

Well its interesting but one way of looking at this is the history of colour. With today's modern view we assume that colours today are as they have always been made from the prime 3 colours upwards. But the history of colour is far more interesting and it is likely the prime colours where some of the last to be made by human hand. As you might expect the first colours would have been made from plant die greens and browns. The early colours would have been dull it was not until the use of oxides in metal that rich colours such as Red and Yellow where common.
Sort of interesting colour Facts (well I say facts but its just stuff i think i know).
White and Black are not colours, black is the lack of colour with true black only existing in space and white being the some of all the colours.
The Greeks did not have the colour blue, strange tho it sounds they called the colour of the sky bronze.
The mean of the word Orange is "fruit approved by elephants" hehe
Early colours where made from lead which as you can guess caused many painters ill health in latter years
Purple was so rare in Roman times ounce for ounce it was more expensive than gold. anyone wearing such a purple robe was consider of high status. This is why purple today is often linked with being a royal colour.

Actually, this is a description of an additive color system, such as RGB, but in actual fabrics you would probably be dealing with a subtractive color sytem, where white is the absence of color, and black is the presence of all colors.
Think about it. Ever take all those bright colors when you were a kid and mix them and mix them until it got that disgusting brown color? Well, if you mixed in enough color, it would eventually resolve to black. My daughter is good at doing this with finger paints.
Here's a link with some color info on RGB and CMY color systems.
