Thread: I have figured out the WHY to the socket Nerf
Here's my theory. It's all a big psychological experiment carried out by a secret government organization in cahoots with an alien race trying to understand human behavior.
Phase 1: new content deprevation
Abstract: see how long a segment of online gamers (SWG tailors)can continue on without new content.
Scientist behind the glass: "After 9 months without content, I still observe some signs oflife there in the tailoring community, about half the population has died off, but the other half is going relatively strong. Some have gotten a little irritable, and occasionally babble irrationally in something called an online forum, but other than that things are pretty normal. Better go on to phase 2"
Phase 2: nerf existing content
Abstract: remove or reduceexisting content and carefully observe the behavior of those being nerfed.
Scientist behind the glass: "I noticed the expected reaction when tailoring experimentation was removed, giving them less to do. Wesaw a measurable increase in anger and agitation but nownow a lesser reaction as their ability to make clothing has been diminished with the socket nerf. There is a definite decrease in self esteemof the remaining players assuddenly have their abilities in-game have been diminished. Interestingly enough, we saw the exact same reaction when we removed their morning coffee and jelly doughnut. Some tailors still remain however, and although their movement has slowed I notice occasional twitching motions from those remaining. I recommend we proceed cautiously to phase 3".
Phase 3: Insertion of barriers which make doing the things they enjoy doing more difficult
Abstract: insertion of new game mechanics and limitations which make it increasingly more difficult for a segment of online players (SWG tailors) to have fun. Our plan is to first reduce their vendor sizes to 150, observe the results, and take further actions if necessary.
Scientist behind the glass: "I think this one finally did it. There was a flurry of motion, followed by a long stillness and silence. Of the small population remaining, the twitching motions have ceased and we now notice no further movement of the subjects."
