Thread: Return/Exchange Policies
Hi just curious what your exchange/return policies are.
For me, I pretty much will take anything back if I am custom making it with them right there. What drives me nuts is if someone make me make them like five different shirts in different colors or styles just to "try them on" and then ends up not buying one. Had one guy like that but that was in the days before I had a full showroom, not that I have a full showroom now with housing limits sorta screwing me over rightnow.
I refuse to take back anything that I didn't make. I don't know why people wonder why I won't take in tradea piece of clothing made by someone else. I think that would be obvious.
I don't take in trade anything (unless you are a good friend) I usually make transactions for hide and resources separate. Irarely trade clothing for clothing even stuff I made.
I also refused to take back a desert command jacket (was quite beautiful) becausea guy bought it earlier in the day and then decided he wanted his money back to buy armor from someone else. Um...no
I have refunded crested battle padding from a guy who didn't know it was wookiee only. I have made sure to write " -wookiee only" on them or now I have a wookiee only vendor. I've also refunded items that were either gender specific or race prohibitive before.
I bite my tongue when I custom make something in outrageous colors that someone asks for and then when they see it they decide not to buy it. There's no way I'm gonna sell that.I've got a powder blue and peach trimmed robe of honor on my vendor that collects dust in those magnificent folds. I pretty much delete these things, but that robe of honor just rubs me wrong....grrr....
I've taken things back that someone would buy off the vendor if I was right there and they just made the transaction. Though it irks me a little bit...I mean there's a picture of the item right there...I guess they need to see it on first.
What do you do if someone asks for something in different colors "just to see" if you don't have that particular style in that particular color on display or already made? do you make these even if you think you are stuck with a set of bright yellow whatever (bright yellow just doesn't sell for me does it for anyone else? and I rather think it's a cheery color) that won't sell.
I've traded same item of clothing before for one that has four sockets only if I already had one made with four sockets and if I had just recently made the item for them (like withint he same week). Now that sockets are becoming more requested I think I'm not gonna do that anymore and just stick with my "you pay for the ones that have under four sockets at cost if I have to make multiples to get you the full four."
Also how do you deal with people who wanna "try something on" first. Usually I comply, but one day I had someone that wanted me to pull a whole lot out of the vendor to "try" and then half of the dang displays. Well, he was excessive the most excessive customer I've had ask for "trying things on."
Just wondering, thanks for your input ![]()
Well still novice but I'd never refund or take back item unless I'd see myself that colour was so hideous that customer wearing it might make me vomit
It's shame that you cant easily show differentcoloured clothes. Like colour would be added with special 'ink' item which would be relatively cheap...
Last night I told someone I'd let them exchange a flight suit I made that they ended up with for one of a different color. They never got back to me. But the offer still stands. That seems fair enough as long as it's the same item, and since there is no decay I don't have to worry about that ![]()
I had a customer last night want to trade me for items that she had already bought for items that she decided later she wanted but could not afford=/. I did this because she was one of my original first customers..but dang there is a point where people are just taking advantage of you. I am horrible at saying no.
I don't take anything back that I don't create..except I did do it once for a customer because the tailor went out of business so I made an exception. Plus the tailor was/is a friend of mine.
I don't trade my items for dropped items..that just seems silly imo.
I also keep my hide/resource sales separate. I have a lot of RL friends who gather me hide anyways..for the most part I don't need anymore=).
I haven't run into too much trading for sockets with a higher amount..though I am sure it will come. The only real problem I've had is people wanting that soft undershirt with sockets..and darn it I just can't get it to come out with any!!
Basically to sum it up..I take it case by case. I haven't had too many problems doing this, but if it becomes a bigger issue I will come up with some set guidelines. I fear when they put in 55 new colors that everyone and their brother is going to want to trade the old colors for the new. But we shall see.

Personally, I'll trade or refund an item only if they really don't look good in it. If they get it, run off for an hour, come back and say "All my friends said this looks stupid give me my money back" I say .. "looks good to me now shoo or buy something else" Unless it's a very nice person with warped friends. hehe

When it comes to making things in outrageous colours, I'm fine with that and just stick them up on my vendor when the customer doesn't want them.
Some guy bought pants and a top in bright pink the other day, and put them straight back on the vendor. Didn't even get in touch with me or anything. So I rejected them straight away. It's one thing to exchange/refund if they can't wear the item, another thing if they wanted to try it on (not including custom orders, of course) and decided they didn't like it.
I actually managed to sell the most hideous yellow boots someone wanted, and at full price! But I've now stopped taking custom orders entirely, unless they e-mail me the specific clothes with the specific colours. I had one customer come in for a complete outfit, hardly like anything of what he tried on, and at the end I'd made 3500 for over an hour's work. I don't need that kind of stress.
I had one customer buy a dress for 4500cr. She was out of my store less than 15 min when I get a tell asking what slots it used, as she was unable to equip it. Relogging didn'thelp either.Thinking it was a problem with that item, I had her come back and I exchanged it. Same problem. It was then I realized that that particular dress could not be worn with a backback, and she could not unequip it (too full). I took the dress back and even refunded her her travel expenses because I did not post a warning about this dress (and didn't even remember until I saw the backpack on her). The customer then ended up buying another dress for the same price that didn't have this issue. I now have a happy and probably repeat customer, as well as two 4500cr dresses on my vendor (with appropriate warnings now).
I take back any item they buy from me aslong it is bought same day.. hehe.. can't come back after a week..
If they sell back to vendor coz they bought an item that didn't match or somehting, I always buy them back too.
I see no reason to not refund or take back items they are not happy with, If I make the customer happy, the customer will probably return to me next time they need a new outfit.

I generally am pretty nice about refunds on something bought from my vendor. I'll buy back things I make at the price I charge for them. Offer it to the vendor and usually I'll buy it. But don't try and charge me more than I charge for it and don't try and trade me your old used clothes, I'm not buying and I'll ban you from my shop.
I've taken a couple of trades, one was for some image design work I desperately needed. The other was someone who'd bought, in cash, a doctor's dress from me and ordered some other work, didn't have a problem with paying, but asked, nicely, if I'd take a minor sludge panther baby, trained how I wanted in trade. Seemed reasonable and he's a cute little guy, so I agreed to that. So I guess the moral is, offer me something useful to me and I might trade for it, but your old dirty clothes are not useful, I'm a tailor, I make new clean ones.
*hangs up a little sign reading "All sales are final"*
Thank you, come again.
I actually find there's little need for a return policy. The first thing I do when someone asks for a restriced item (ie Twi'Lek Bone Crest) is ask for their gender and race (ie Are you a Twi'lek female?). That way, there's no chance of a screw up.
The only reason someone could possibly return something is if I totally boned the color (ie they ask for blue and I make a green item), in which case I'm probably still standing right there, so I can fix the problem at that moment, so there's no real "return." Now, if the person doesn't like the color, hey, I warned 'em I could get close, not exact.
I will refund/exchange any item that I made for them on the spot. Theres no coming back 2 hours later saying "I dont think I look good in this, can I trade it for something else"
Had someone send me a tell the other day wanting a cloak.
So I ask, color? (Like I really had to)
Black, of course
So I say "Ok black"
A few seconds later he asks "What greys do you have" (by this time I already had the cloak done in black)
"Can I get it in grey?" he asks.
