Thread: My Customers Throw Me Out of My Shop

So, I'm doing the usual consulting, along with some style ideas as an Image Designer as well, with an overt member of MY faction, in MY public house, which doubles as my shop. They have an item to trade to me so we trade and BOOM! I'm thrown out of my own home. THEY are not! Now I have to wait 5 minutes to get back inside my own house, to get to my supplies. No, I know for a factthey did NOT have a TEF. So, now what do we do as consultants? Put everything on the vendor and do a "buy before you try" deal? Do we take everyone out to the front lawn and tell them to strip naked there to try on clothes? Seriously, I've tried and tried to stay with this game since beta but this has just brought me to the limit of my endurance. What are we supposed to do now?

I've had this happen a few times as well. Apparently, if you trade with someone with a TEF OR who is overt, you get a TEF. Before the whole 'getting kicked out of structures' thing was added, I had people come in to my shop while I was busy crafting away and tell me they had a TEF on me, but not to worry, they wouldn't kill me. I doubt everyone is that nice though...

They are working to fix this, the change is already on test from what I hear.

This whole faction-trading thing has been a big beef of mine, moreso recently. I was out hunting with a group of Rebs this weekend. I have not joined either faction but do have 250 Reb, -23 Imp points. Since I haven't "officially" signed on with one or the other, I should be able to trade with anyone, should I not??? What's the point of being a crafter if the stupid game decides who you can and can't sell to?
One of my group asks for a complete outfit in the field. I make it and then can't freakin' give it to him!! Why can't I trade with a Rebel when I have 250 Reb faction????
Now I know ways around this (bazaar, droid transfers) but it's just ANNOYING.

/endrant (for now)

Because by declaring a faction, you give up certain conveniences... like not ever being a PvP target no matter what you do, unless you target someone and type /duel. You also give up the convenience of trading with everyone... if you're covert, you give up the convenience of trading with people who are on the opposing faction, and if you're overt, you give up the convenience of trading with anyone not on your faction. If you have a TEF, it works the same as being overt temporarily.

If neutrals could trade with anyone regardless of faction...

- The inconvenience of becoming covert rebel or imperial would be slightly greater, because you would only lose trade partners and not gain any
- The inconvenience of becoming overt would be slightly less, because you could still trade with neutrals
- Coverts would have one less way of knowing they had a TEF ;-)

In a roleplaying sense, think of it this way: you haven't taken a side (whatever your faction points are, if you haven't *declared*, you haven't taken a side), so they can't really trust you. Likewise, it would compromise your careful neutrality to be trading with an overt (temporary or otherwise). Would it make sense for your covert rebel customers to come waltzing into your shop for clothing if they saw you trading with someone who was *obviously* imperial? If you were trading with overt rebels, wouldn't the imps want to blow you and your house sky-high? The game prevents you from doing things that don't make sense from a roleplaying standpoint, as well.

This happened to me today - Made some clothes for an Overt rebel - I am a covert rebel. Put one item on myvendor the price of the set (easier to find it)

The traded for the other 2 - as soon as trade was complete - whammo - out the red dorr for 5 min.

We were the same faction. LOL

I had the same problem happen a few days ago after they put in the patch. I was very angered and fustrated by this. At first I had no clue what had happened. I thought that since I just placed my house it reset or something, kicking me out and forgetting that I was the owner. Then I realized I had traded with an Overt friend which caused me to get TEF and kick me out.

I am pleased to hear that they are doing something about it though. As I can not access my vendors while I am on my tailor.

The good news is that it only lasts 5 minutes. I held a red door sale for those who ran by, kinda like a yard sale.

Even so, you would think that a neutral (ie. undeclared without an overly large negative faction point balance) craftsman should be able to trade to anyone, no?

I can seehow trading with the enemy would be out-of-character, but what would simple citizens care for badges (ie. the Overt tag)? I'm getting a bit tired having to trade through the bazaar or a vendor, even though I have nothing to do with this silly civil war
