Thread: Optimistic Thoughts for Tailors

Ifwe look atthe removal of clothing decayoptimistically,we should realize that this is a role playing game and there are actually people whobuynew clothing for their character regularly.Since this is a player driven game, there are a lotof different events where a new set of threads would be appropriate.

For example,I attended a wedding at Lake Retreat for a guild mate and one of our tailors made a complete outfit for the groom as a wedding present. I have to say, he lookedrather dashing in his new threads and it really added to thefeel of the big event.

Also, I noticed that Master Tailors now have access to 55 color options. This is wonderful in my opinion, because I believe that more people will want to buy new clothes with the better color options. Most of the pre-patch colors looked rather drab and discouraged me from buying particular items.

As far assupply and demand is concerned, the number of tailors to total population is rather small as it probably needs to be for this class.

Don't bash this change as a negative, necessarily, but work on a more positive way of thinking and request more and interesting clothing to be added in the future.

No offense, I see how you are looking at the bright side. However removing all possibility for clothing decay makes the tailoring profession obsolete.

Although I agree some clothing would have a very slow decay rate based on how long it is worn, considering that many people don't wear armor for player vs. creature combat I think that decay should be similar to armor in that combat will damage your clothing.

I sell my clothing for the 2-3 credits per resource used rule. That means I'm selling shirts for 100 credits. With the competition in Tailoring you have to sell your stuff at the 2-3 credits per resource used guideline. (Have you seen just how much clothing is on the Bazaars, let alone in people's vendors?)

I've been a Tailor sense I started the game, at the begining there was a large rush/demand for clothing. This is because everyone was starting out in the same dreaded newbie clothes. However at this point, the majority of the players have clothes that aren't the 'newbie clothes', and those who don't can easily find/buy an outfit from the bazaar for less then 1000 credits. (Which is less then a destroy mission for most.)

Over the past few weeks I have noticed aDRASTIC decline in the amount of clothes I've been able to sell. People already arn't buying because they have no reason to buy new clothes. I've slowly been watching all the money I made, being the first to sell trench coats on my server, being eaten away as I have to lower prices and about beg people to buy my stuff. (I may as well go back to just giving the clothes away at this rate).

I read the Tailor forum to learn that yes they plan on including Clothing Decay. Yeah! Only to hear that now they are not going to include clothing decay. W T F!!!

Tailors are not rich. They never will be rich. Being the first to produce a certain clothing item/type may have given some tailors some decent cash when the game started but at this point there is a flood of clothing.

Without clothing decay, there will become little to no demand for clothing. Besides, why did you make clothing repair kits in the first place. The people who tend to complain about clothing decay are those who don't want to lose their skill enhancements. I have several, and I have always seen them as a temperory boost to the character, and not a perminate one.

I also don't appreciate being lied to. (Being told that decay would be implemented and then having it not be.) I've worked to hard to get where I am, and now will find my hard work is for nothing, because no one will want to buy a new shirt even at 10 credits when they already have one that is prefectly fine.

You do have a point, but I don't see that working very well. The active RPers on any of the servers is very small to start with, so I don't see that really impacting sales. And well frankly it's just unfair.

I know that sounds childish but I have a great Scout Blaster. But it's starting to ware out. So I either have to get it repaired or buy a new one. Because I like this blaster so much I'll probably go back to the same weaponsmith for a new one or repairs.

But if I make someone a great duster that they wear all the time it'll never wear out. What's the point? If you wear the same pair of pants every day of your life, they are eventually going to wear out. Should be the same here.

You have a good point and I admire your positive attitude in trying to help, but at the same time....

It has been my experience that very very few players purchase different outfits regardless of style or color. I purchased an outfit in my droid engineering days a very long time ago and I've been so happy with the look that I haven't changed it, even now that I am a tailor!

Also, I have found that the majority of people purchasing multiple outfits or the same outfit in a different color... are entertainers. And those are usually only the entertainers who are girls in real life... in case you didn't notice, that is very rare in SWG.

A lot of playerssimply don't care that much about "variety" in clothing.

nice to see someone being positive about something which has completely made me rethink my char and business plan :/

but u are not a tailor...and it shows

however i believe the devs have something up their sleeve for tailors later to make our clothing more "wanted" that just for sockets and looks. and it better be resists or something like that.

so much for me stockpiling on high DR resources....

Jedi,

Nope, I really refuse to see this is anything but a disasterous kick in the teeth to tailors.A little present from Sony. Of course I'm so angry right now that I only see red anyway (except on my clothing color pallete where I don't have red cause I'm only level 2, lol). But anyway, Role-players are an insignificant portion of the playing community. In fact, I can't say I've ever even met one in SWG. Also, while the new colors might great a small bump in business over the next week, what is that in the bigger schem of things? I'll tell you what: nada, zilch, nothing.

I do agree that people like to change their looks and their outfits, and that after all is my only sales opportunity these days since you see less and less newbies, but once again, I'm betting a warrior changes armor due to decay (which is after all clothing too is it not?) a heck of a lot more than he changes his non-armor clothing (e.g. undershirts or backpacks) since there is never a compelling reason to change that other than on a fashion whim. I buy a new gun everycouple weeks because I have to. I buy a new complete set of armor everycouple weeks because I have to. I stock spares of these items because I'm afraid of running out. I buy (or make) medical supplies constantly because I use them up. I buy food constantly becuase I use that up. Why should clothing be any different? Why are tailors being singled out?

Sorry, just venting, I appreciate your positive attitude Jedi, I just have trouble dealing with that right now

The problems with the lack of clothing decay and experimentative stats aresomewhat negated by the sheer quantity and variety of items we tailors can make. Until every player has every single article of clothing in every color they could possibly want, tailors aren't gonna go out of business anytime soon.

Jedi, you fail to take into account that many people want black. Once they have the black outfit they are happy with they will never come in the doors again, I know this because I've seen it happen. It's not the end of the world for tailors, but give it another six months with more and more clothing made by more and more master tailors, in circulation with absolutely no decay...also the percentage of tailors is not small. Two new masters announced themselves on my server board just yesterday. That is two that announce on the boards in one day, that's not taking into account the ones who never come to the boards. There are a ton of tailors out there, wouldn't make a difference if clothing was taken out of the game somehow, but as it is now there are way too many tailors for far too small a sales potential. Like I said we won't feel it immediately, well I suspect some are, and as I stated I know very specific customers who have bought their black outfitwith four sockets and I won't be seeing them again, butgive it a few months, you will see only the tailors who have a very strong market share will stay in business.

I'm one for positive posts myself, trust me I've tried to start a few, but they don't take off like the negative ones. Sorry to turn this one negative on you, but as far as the bright side, there is very little of it without some type of decay in the future.
