Thread: CLOTHING DECAY THE SOLUTION
I think clothing should be handled just like real life:
Why do we wear clothing?
It provides protection from environmental conditions such as temperature, weather, etc.
The game already simulates environmental affects with changing weather (to some degree - i.e. Rain Storms). Temperature can be simulated with in game message saying wether its Hot or Cold out (Changing as you move into the snow covered mountains or come down into the warmer valleys...). Messages can say that you are shivering or sweating or just be generic saying your cold. Perhaps an ambient temperature reading could be added to the radar display (That would be my choice). Temperature could be mapped just like a spawned resource density %. As you move around, the temperature reading could display the temperature at your location. Lots of ways to do this....
Just impose a baseenvironmental penalty on all your attributesdue to weather conditions. That will force everyone to wearappropriate clothing (Wooly Jacket anyone?) or suffer...just like real life.
There should be no penalty for anyone indoors (Love that central Heat and AC - not to mention scantily clad dancers).
Next, forget the clothing decay issue and give clothing combat damage just like armor. People wont run around naked due to the weather penalties affecting their attributes/skills.
Dancers clothing not wearing out? Have all entertainers clothing very slowly decay when they perform.
Problem Solved.

I just wanted to add a little something. I noticed while crafting a transport flight suit last night that one of the slots said something about radiation shielding. That sounds like protection to me, yet no clothing offers any.
That gave me an idea. Since harvesting radioactive materials deals damage, we could make clothing with radioactive protection. I only see a small small amount of people using that, but it'd be there for them to use. ![]()
To be completly honest, I think this is far too complicated. Well, to be more specific, I think the weather thing is too complicated.
Why do we wear clothing in real life?
Sure part of that answer is due to environmental issues, but not all of it. Part of it is a dignity thing. People dont *generally* feel comfortable running around infront of people that they dont know naked. When its 35 degrees and burning heat in summer, we dont go out with no clothes on. This is a society thing. It's expected of us not to, it wouldnt be approved off if we did and most of us wouldnt feel comfortable with it.
Part of this can be translated to in game. Sure some people run around naked. Some people get kicks out of this. Not everyone does. Dancers wear clothing to look attractive, to stand out, the nature of their business is to look good. Combat classes wear clothing to look the part. Armour has encumberances, sure they protect but at a price. Some people just want to look cool, they want to look like their favourite movie star. All of this is fine, however or why ever people want to wear clothes is upto them.
But i think the clothing decay can be much simpler.
Dancers clothing decays as they perform. Exactly! you got this spot on. Its obvious, it wouldnt be hard to implement and clothing should, imo, be one of their main over heads.
Combat classes get wounded in battle. It makes zero sense that they can get wounded but their clothing not be damaged. Surely to get wounded the bullets / rays whatever it is we use in this game is going through the clothing? Decay should occur as people fight and as people get wounded.
I think your idea of some kind of weather implementation is all very fancy.... but a little to ambitious for this stage of the game. (Remember it was only yesterday they managed to fix guild chat)
Also I dont think people should be forced to wear "weather appropriate clothing". Its their right to wear what they want to be honest. Sure some people look dumb but its still their choice. Afterall, this is quite simply a game. Games are supposed to be an escape from the trials and strains of real life.
